Grade: A-

Morris is only 40 (cue the Gundy memes), hasn't been a Power 4 head coach, and before this season had only middling results with North Texas. His quarterback track record is his superpower, though, and Oklahoma State needs a renaissance at the position after things fell off too sharply. Morris can recruit Texas and build up the roster. Time will tell if he has the expertise to win one-score games in a league where programs are extremely similar. -- Rittenberg

I wasn't familiar with this ESPN talking head, Rittenberg, so I clicked the link to see what he had to say in his article (which I posted above)

Now I'm scratching my head trying to reconcile Rittenberg's comments with the grade assigned.... He doesn't sound all that flattering about Morris, then he projects him to the A- hire category.

I personally think "grading a hire" is an absolutely stupid exercise by journalists, but there it is, and as Rittenberg said in his last sentence, time will tell if his experience can transfer to the B12.

I think Morris was a good hire for OSU but my grading criteria will be how the defense performs since in my opinion that is going to determine whether he can "win one-score games in a league where programs are extremely similar" (as he said).
