A Look at Where OSU Guys Could Land in the 2021 NFL Draft
STILLWATER – We’re just a few weeks away from the start of the 2021 NFL Draft and there’s a number of Oklahoma State football players in line to be drafted.
The draft is set to take place April 29-May 1.
I don’t think there should be any surprise when Teven Jenkins is the first Cowboy taken in the draft. After having three great seasons in Stillwater, Jenkins checked into OSU’s Pro Day at 6-6, 317-pounds and posted an impressive 5.01 and 5.03 40-times, a 32.5-inch vertical and banged out 36 reps on the bench press.
There are several publications, including CBS Sports and ESPN, that have Jenkins going 20th overall to the Chicago Bears. This is what CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso had to say about Jenkins: “Back-to-back tackles, and the Bears get a nasty on in Jenkins who plays with impeccable balance and fundamentals in pass pro.”
Oklahoma State fans have also seen Jenkins be the foundation of a great run game the past three seasons.
The next Cowboy being projected is receiver Tylan Wallace in the second round with the 58th overall pick to the Baltimore Ravens. Tylan also had a solid pro day as he posted a 4.48 and 4.52 40-times and a 33.0-inch vertical. He’s also been one of the best receivers in college football the past few seasons. He hauled in 59 receptions for 922 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games this past season, and that’s after tearing his ACL the season before. In just eight games in 2019 before tearing his ACL, Wallace hauled in 53 catches for 903 yards and eight touchdowns and was a Biletnikoff Award finalist the season before with 86 catches for 1,491 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Rodarius Williams is the next Cowboy being projected in the draft, going to Tampa Bay in the third round with the 95th overall pick. Williams greatly improved his draft stock by coming back and playing last season. He posted 4.50 and 4.53 40-times and a 36.5-inch vertical at OSU’s pro day. As a senior, Williams posted 18 total tackles, 13 of which were unassisted. He also posted seven pass break ups. While you might think those numbers are low, it’s because no one wanted to throw his way as he developed into a lock-down corner.
According to CBS Sports’ mock draft, Chuba Hubbard is the last Cowboy to be drafted and they have him falling a long way down to the seventh round to Cincinnati with the 235th overall pick. However, NFL.com has Chuba going with the 130th overall pick to Jacksonville in the fourth round. Wherever he falls, he’s going to make an impact.
Hampered by injuries this past season, Hubbard carried the ball 133 times for just 625 yards and five touchdowns. However, his 2019 campaign was one of the best in school history, which is saying a lot considering the historic tradition at the position for the Pokes. Hubbard carried the ball 328 times for 2,094 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Except for a good portion of the first round, the NFL Draft is always unpredictable, so it’ll be fun to see where this year’s group of draftable Cowboys land.
