Standout DE Wendell Gregory Expected to Enter the Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – We can confirm that this season’s freshman All-American and Freshman of the Year nominee in college fotball edge rusher and outside linebacker Wendell Gregory was on the board in the Oklahoma State staff room. Gregory was a desired returnee after all of the conversations about staying and new financial deals and suggestions to leave made by Cowboys existing roster players and new head coach Eric Morris. Unfortunately, it apears the Cowboys will have to battle to keep Gregory as he has been reported by On3 to be heading into the transfer portal when the period opens on Jan. 2-16.

This fall, his first season at Oklahoma State since transferring from South Carolia, Gregory appeared in every game and started it our with a bang as he had three sacks in one half against UT-martin in the opener. He finished with 27 total tackles, 12.0 of those being for loss with 4.0 sacks, with one forced fumble and one pass deflection. He was one of, if not the most explosive defender for the Cowboys this season.

Gregory got into trouble off the field during the month of May after arriving at Oklahoma State early to begin learning the defense and training. He was cited for shoplifting and larceny at a local Stillwater Walmart. The items he took were essentials and not luxury or frivilous items. A deeper search by Pokes Report showed Gregory was in Stillwater and trying to live before school benefits were available and without support of his agents/representation. A further example of the problems in college football with faulty and not reponsible agents representing players. 

A standout in Georgia in high school at Marietta Walton High School, Gregory was one of the most highly-sought pass rushers and was a four-star prospect across the board. 

Gregory reposted on his Twitter the above message appearing to confirm that he is going into the portal. His absence will be a major hole to fill for the new staff.
