Oklahoma State Caps Non-Conference Play With 103-77 Win Over Bethune-Cookman
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State put a nice bow on non-conference play on Monday night as they beat Bethune-Cookman, 103-77.
The win moved the Pokes to 12-1 overall headed into Big 12 play on Saturday on the road in Lubbock against Texas Tech.
Anthony Roy led the Pokes in scoring with a season-high 27 points on 50% shooting from the floor and a perfect 15-of-15 from the free throw line.
Vyctorius Miller was next on the stat sheet with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
In his first game back since Bedlam, Parsa Fallah recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
As a team, the Cowboys shot 47% from the floor, 36% from 3-point range and 81% from the free throw line. They outrebounded the Wildcats 40-33 and forced 19 turnovers to eight, scoring 31 points of the BC turnovers.
It was a much closer first half than Steve Lutz would’ve liked and fouls were a major contributor. The two teams combined for 24 team fouls, with the Pokes going 12-of-16 from the free throw line and the Wildcats 11-of-16.
The Cowboys finally pulled away late in the first half, but the Wildcats led by two, 17-15, with just over 12 minutes left in the half. The Cowboys extended their lead up to 12 points with just over six minutes left in the half, 38-26, on an 8-0. After the Wildcats cut it back down to six with two minutes left before the Pokes finished the half on a 6-0 run to make it a 12-point game at the break, 50-38.
After pulling away late in the second half, the Pokes separated in the second. By the 11-minute mark of the second half, the Cowboys had extended their lead up to 26 points, 81-55, following another 8-0 run in just over one minute.
A 9-0 run by the Pokes gave them their largest lead of the game, 28 points with four minutes left in the game, which was started with a 3-pointer by Jaylen Curry and capped by a 3-pointer by Roy, which set his season-high in scoring with 25 points.
They’d top that by going up by 29 points, 99-70, just a minute later.
The Cowboys are back in action this coming Saturday as they begin Big 12 play out on the road in Lubbock against Texas Tech.
