We’re a few weeks out from the start of the 2021 NFL Draft and even though there’s already so much draft content out there, what’s one more?
Tylan Wallace has been one of the best receivers in Oklahoma State history the past three seasons. In four seasons with the Pokes, Wallace hauled in 3,434 yards and 26 touchdowns and was a Biletnikoff Award finalist in 2018 and a multi-time All-American and All-Big 12 selection.
He ranks fifth all-time in program history in receptions and receiving yards with 205 receptions for 3,434 yards and sixth in receiving touchdowns with 26. Ahead of him in all three categories? Rashaun Woods, Justin Blackmon, James Washington and Hart Lee Dykes, a rather elite group to be a part of.
Pro Football Focus compares Wallace’s upside to that of Stefon Diggs, who’s had a really solid NFL career the past six seasons and has gotten better each year. After five years with Minnesota, Diggs was traded to the Buffalo Bills where he hauled in 127 receptions for 1,535 yards and eight touchdowns, a performance which led to a Pro Bowl selection and a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Diggs was selected as the 146th overall pick in 2015 and quickly became one of the best receivers in the league. Tylan Wallace is being projected anywhere from late second to late third round. He posted a 4.48 scout-timed 40 at OSU’s Pro Day, as well as a 4.25 5-10-5 time and a 6.97 3-cone drill. He wasn’t as explosive on the vertical and wasn’t quite as fast as other receivers in the 40-time, something mentioned in the PFF article.
However, when you combine a Stefon Diggs comparison with one of the best deep-threat receivers in the college game who can leap over any defender and twist their body mid-air to come down with a pass and that spells trouble for NFL defenders.
