Oklahoma State Picks Up Portal Pick Up No. 43 Liberty's Christian Bodnar
STILLWATER – Honestly, Oklahoma State may be doing their final work on the transfer portal and some of that needs to be on defense. Liberty cornerback Christian Bodnar is the latest pickup. The 5-11, 185 pound Florida native agreed to be a Cowboy on Sunday morning (Jan. 11). Classes begin at Oklahoma State on Monday, Jan. 12.
Bodnar will be a redshirt junior next season. He is the fourth cornerback that Oklahoma State has picked up in the transfer portal and he is the 18th defensive player overall to join the Pokes out of the portal.
Last season he finished with big numbers including 59 total tackles, 45 unassisted, 10 tackles-for-loss, three sacks, an interception, two fumbles forced, and nine passes defended. He is what I characterize as a force corner that is often going to be used to play tight, press coverage and also come of the edge as a blitzer.
He was a major preseason comeback player of the year candidate including from Phil Steele. He is also an excellent student that is a three-time CUSA Commissioner’s Honor Roll athlete.
As a redshirt freshman, he played in five games before being lost to illness. Bodnar collected 13 tackles, eight unassisted, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, a sack, two quarterback hurries, a fumble forced, and a pass defended.
A two-sport athlete at Bloomington High School in Valrico, Fla; Bodnar was All-Conference as an all-purpose player as a senior with 45 tackles, and over 800-yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground as a running back. He was All-Conference as a defensive back his junior season with 51 tackles, 44 unassisted and four interceptions. Bodnar helped Bloomington reach the playoff semifinals as a sophomore, finishing the year with a 13-1 record. He had six tackles and a pass defended that season.
