No. 10 Oklahoma State Sweeps No. 21 Texas Tech, Advances to ITA Indoor Championships
LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State's No. 10 ranked women's tennis team defeated No. 21 Texas Tech, 4-0, on Saturday at the Falls Athletic and Tennis Club to advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships for the second consecutive year.
The win improves OSU to 2-0 while giving it the chance to compete for the ITA Indoor National Championship in Chicago, Illinois, beginning on Feb. 6. It also extended the Cowgirls win streak to 13 in regular season matches.
Oklahoma State started its day by winning he doubles point, as the pairing of Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp defeated Texas Tech's pairing of Kate Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy, 6-1, on court one to give OSU the advantage.
Next, OSU's Lucia Peyre and Luca Udvardy defeated Andreea Lila and Elena Daskalova, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point for the Cowgirls. Olivia Lincer and Marcela Lopez led Texas Tech's Mariia Hlahola and Kseniia Logvin, 5-3, before the match was stopped.
Singles play saw its first point go to Oklahoma State as Lincer defeated Dmitrichenko, 6-2, 6-1. Nijkamp followed that with a win over Hlahola, 6-4, 6-3. The final point for Oklahoma State came when Peyre defeated Logvin, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Cowgirls.
The final three singles matches went unfinished with Lopez leading Daskalova, 1-0, while Udvardy was trailing Lila, 2-3 and Komar trailing Murphy 6-4, 3-6, 2-5.
