Oklahoma State Lands South Dakota State Wrestling Transfer Bennett Berge
STILLWATER – David Taylor and Co. have added an All-American to the lineup. Former South Dakota State wrestler Bennett Berge has committed to Oklahoma State out of the transfer portal.
Berge, who’s set to enter his final year of eligibility, wrestled at 197 pounds last season for the Jackrabbits. He posted a 17-7 overall record and took fifth at the Big 12 championships in Tulsa, falling to NCAA finalist Cody Merrill in the consos.
Berge was an All-American for the Jackrabbits at 184 pounds following the 2023-24 season. He posted a fourth-place finish at the NCAA national championships as a No. 9 seed. He lost in his opening match before winning five-straight matches for his fourth-place finish.
He finished that season with a 25-7 overall record, which included an 11-2 record in duals and a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 championships.
Up to this point in his career Berge is 75-26 overall with a near-40% bonus rate and three-straight NCAA championship appearances. It will be interesting to see if Berge stays up at 197 pounds, a spot held by Cody Merrill, or if he tries to go back down to 184 and challenge Zack Ryder.
