STILLWATER – Steve Lutz and Co. have added a second player out of Sam Houston as transfer guard Jacob Walker has committed to Oklahoma State.
He joins his teammate Kashie Natt, who was the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year last season, as well as North Carolina transfer wing Luka Bogavac.
Walker checks in at 6-1, 185 pounds and is originally out of Memphis, Tennessee, where he played for First Assembly Chrisitan High School. He played his senior season at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas.
Last season as a freshman for the Bearkats, Walker played in 34 games with 12 starts and averaged nearly 26 minutes per game. He averaged nearly 12 points per game on an impressive 44% shooting from the floor, 36% from 3-point range and 75% from the free throw line on 119 of 159 shooting.
He also brought down 2.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game with 31 steals. Turnovers were a bit of an issue as he finished with 63 on the season, which would’ve been second highest on the Cowboy team this season. He also scored in double figures in 10 of the final 11 games of the regular season.
Following the season, Walker was named the C-USA Sixth Player of the Year. He posted nearly 13 points per game during conference play, which helped the Bearkats to win 12-of-13 games.
He had one heck of an audition in Stillwater back in December when he dropped 17 points against the Cowboys on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor and 3-of-6 from 3-point range. He was also 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
