Here’s a quote he gave on how important physicality is from his team.
“I mean, physicality is arguably the most important aspect to this game of football. You're talking about the two most important things we talk about with our players on a consistent basis is like blocking and tackling. Those two things are just critical on all three sides of the football, even special teams-wise. And there's a physicality that comes along with that, and that's something that there's certain guys on our roster that we've seen it, and we've seen enough, and so as we get into it, they might be super limited because there's video evidence of them going out and doing it at a high level.
“Caleb Hawkins, for instance, a super physical running back and hard to tackle. And so, he's someone I don't need to see get tackled 25 times in a scrimmage. I've seen it enough and know that we’re gonna put a heavy load on him. So, we'll push some of those to the other guys. But it's super important just as a team, I think, that as we get in it today and inside drill starts up today, those are super important things.
“That's one thing that's way different for me and my philosophy than an Air Raid disciple like Leach. If he looked at my script today and saw how many plays I’ve threw on the inside, he probably wouldn't agree with it much. He'd spend that time playing a little bit more seven on seven. I just think any time you can force your will on an opponent and run the ball to finish out football games, and on the other side, when you can stop the run. I've been a part of teams where we've been really good on offense, can't stop the run. Turns into long seasons for you. It'll be something that's definitely a huge part of this camp.”
