STILLWATER – While Drew Mestemaker and Oklahoma State have yet to take an official snap in Stillwater, we’ve got bowl predictions. The month leading up to any football season is always silly season and this year isn’t any different as CBS Sports projects the Cowboys will face former Big 12 foe Missouri in the Liberty Bowl.
This would be a fun rematch, not only of former Big 12 days, but the Cowboys beat the Tigers 38-33 in the 2018 Liberty Bowl. Quarterback Taylor Cornelius went 26-of-44 for 336 yards with four touchdowns and two picks. Running back Chuba Hubbard had 18 carries for 145 yards and one touchdown and receiver Tyron Johnson had seven catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
I’ve made it publicly known on the Pokes Report Podcast, as well as my radio show the Afternoon Sports Drive on Triple Play Sports Radio that I’m cautiously optimistic about this upcoming season. After two of the worst seasons OSU football has ever had, nearly 90 new players and an entirely new coaching staff, it’s hard for me to predict a turnaround of epic proportions resulting in 8+ wins. However, I do believe it’s not impossible and that Drew Mestemaker and Co. will have success on offense. How much? I need to see if these guys can make the transition to playing P4 football in the Big 12.
But regardless of all that, I do love me a good silly season prediction and the Pokes facing the Tigers in the Liberty Bowl is right up my alley. Just for grins, the Pokes finished the 2018 season 7-6 overall and Missouri was ranked No. 23 in the CFP and 8-4 going into the bowl game.
