STILLWATER – We are so incredibly close to the start of the 2026-27 college football season it’s not even funny. I liken it to that of when kids get the sleepy sillies during a sleepover; it’s 2 a.m. and you’ve made the parents mad by laughing too hard in the living room. That’s where we are in the college football calendar, except we’re talking bowl projections.

Last week, I wrote an article on how CBS has projected the Pokes will face Missouri in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis following the regular season.

ESPN and Athlon Sports both have the Pokes playing in the Texas Bowl, ESPN against Tennessee and Athlon against Missouri. The Cowboys have played in the Texas Bowl a few times in the past handful of years, beating Texas A&M 31-23 in 2023 and losing to the Aggies 24-21 in 2019.

The list of bowl affiliations isn’t too extensive for the Big 12, but contains the Sugar Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Pop-Tarts Bowl and Texas Bowl among others.

I would certainly enjoy/love seeing the Pokes play in the Sugar Bowl, as well as the Alamo Bowl.  They played in the 2016 Alamo Bowl, beating Colorado 38-8 and finished with a 10-3 overall record. They played in the 2015 Sugar Bowl, losing to Ole Miss 48-20 and finished with a 10-3 overall record.

The Pop-Tarts Bowl, which the Pokes have technically played in with a 37-34 win over Miami in the 2020 Cheez-It Bowl, finishing with an 8-3 record and beating Virginia Tech 30-21 in the 2017 Camping World Bowl with a 10-3 overall record.

As of right now, I think the Cowboys can win seven games this season. While there’s nothing to base it on yet, I do feel they can beat Tulsa, Murray State, WVU, UCF, Colorado, Iowa State and Kansas. I’ll take Oklahoma State over Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl.

However, I have said I’ll reevaluate after the WVU game. It’s certainly possible the Pokes are going to be better than seven wins, which I would take an eight-win OSU team over Auburn in the Texas Bowl.
