STILLWATER – Two of the best softball teams in the country square off tonight on the diamond in Stillwater. It’s Bedlam, and No. 7 Oklahoma State is hosting No. 1 Oklahoma at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ with the Big 12 title on the line.
“Obviously coming off a nice week down in Austin; I thought our team played well” said head coach Kenny Gajewski on the Cowgirls’ series sweep of Texas last weekend. “They did the things they needed to to put themselves in this position. Just looking forward to the weekend, to Friday night and all that that come along with all that. We know what’s ahead of us, we know what’s on the line here and the biggest thing for us is just going and taking what we want. That’s going to have to be the attitude of this team.”
This is the first time since the 1997 season that a Bedlam series will be played at one site, certainly giving the Cowgirls a homefield advantage as they’ve won the last 32 of 34 games played at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls enter this game 39-6 overall and riding a program-record 14-game win streak, which includes five-straight conference series wins. They’ve also outscored their opponents this season 282-93.
However, the Sooners enter this weekend undefeated in conference play and having won 24-straight over the Cowgirls. They’ve also recorded 30 run-rule victories on the season, so there’s no doubt this will be a hard-fought series between the two teams.
The Sooners have won the last eight Big 12 regular season titles and will clinch their ninth if they take two against the Cowgirls this weekend. The Cowgirls will be looking for their first conference title since they won the Big Eight back in 1995.
“OU’s got something that we want, we’re going to have to take it,” said Gajewski. “They’re not going to give it up easy.”
