STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrapped up non-conference play with another win on the board as the Cowboys beat Murray State, 59-0.
It marked the first shutout win for the Pokes since 2021 and the first home shutout since the 84-0 win over Savannah State.
Head coach Eric Morris met with the media following the game to discuss the win over the Racers.
“I thought execution was pretty good for most of the first half,” Morris said. “I thought the defense was phenomenal pretty much the whole entire game. We got a little sloppy there at the end offensively. We had a procedure penalty where we got a first down there at the end and had a protection breakdown and they got in the backfield and created a turnover there. And so I wasn't happy with that going into halftime.
“I thought the coaches did a nice job of kind of resetting them. It’s such a process right now, just of teaching these guys how to win and the different things that happen. I wasn't happy at all about the celebrations. We had one on offense that didn't get called over there, and then the one after the turnover. It’s just some of those little things that we need to clean up. But we got a lot of kids’ action tonight. We got a lot of guys game reps, which will be huge for us to see kind of how they performed. I thought that was good.
“We got a bunch of offensive linemen in there, some young bucks. I thought William Mason did a phenomenal job when he came in. I thought (Markeith) Williams at safety came in and showed a lot of tenacity and came downhill and stopped some stuff. It’s going to be great to go back and really grade this. It was good to get a bunch of people involved in it and just knowing that next week we are starting Big 12 play and the stakes are obviously a lot harder.
“It’s the first time we get on a plane and have to fly up across the country. We got to put this one behind us and be able to correct some of the things. And I was happy overall with penalties in general. We didn't have many penalties so it didn't get sloppy. There are times when some of the things get sloppy after a big win. I thought that we were honed in.”
