David Taylor Excited About Oklahoma State's Challenging 2026-27 Schedule
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Wrestling and David Taylor are still working their way back to the top of college wrestling, but are way ahead of where people thought they’d be entering year three. With five individual national champions, three being true freshmen this past season, the Cowboys have squarely and quickly put themselves back in the mix this season.
The Cowboys are set for a very solid schedule in 2026-27, which features home duals against Nebraska, Missouri and West Virginia, while hitting the road to face OU, Northern Iowa, Iowa State and Iowa. It also features the National Duals Invitational over in Tulsa at the BOK Center.
Coach Taylor feels that while this is a tough schedule that needs to be worked on in terms of balance, it is also one that will help the Pokes.
“To an extent, there’s not a lot we could do (about the schedule),” David Taylor said. “It would be nice to restore a little balance, like I think just with the way the schedule is with our home and away (duals). We’ve got to work pretty hard to try and restore a little more balance in the years, but that stuff just comes with time. It’s just one of those things that it’s just not that easy to do. It really isn’t, I wish it was. Every team has to think about competitively what’s best for their roster, where their team’s at. A lot of things are scheduled out in advance, so you just kind of have to get on that plan.
“I really like our schedule. I think we had a great schedule last year, pretty difficult schedule and I think this year has a lot of challenges as well. It gives our guys a chance with the five-for-five, get a lot of guys on our roster matches throughout the season. That’s definitely something that we are aware of. It’s not like things in the past where a guy redshirts and you’ve got to protect their dates, like we can get guys matches throughout the year and I think our schedule reflects that. We’ll be challenged, got a lot of challenging opportunities ahead and looking forward to those.”
