Oklahoma State Football Coach Eric Morris Asked About Speculation on AD Chad Weiberg
STILLWATER – Somebody was going to ask the question. With all of the stories last week with regard to the status of Oklahoma State University Athletics Director Chad Weiberg, you would think the popular and immediately successful head football coach he hired, Eric Morris, would have an opinion. I was next up with the microphone when Morris was asked by student newspaper O’Colly sports reporter Will Thorogood about his working relationship with Weiberg.
“Yeah, it’s been phenomenal. Super thankful, just like I’ve said up here all the time for Chad and Dr. Hess (school president) for giving me this opportunity to go out here and lead this organization,” Morris answered. “Obviously it’s super important for us to continue to build the momentum that we have right now. I tell my players all the time, you get momentum in sports, you want to keep it. Other people are going to try to take it from you.”
Last week was a bye week on the schedule for Oklahoma State and Morris chose not to hold his weekly press conference. He did do several interviews with national outlets, but none of those picked up on the stories. The first one was a front page, top of the fold column by renowned sports columnist Berry Tramel in The Tulsa World.
Pokes Report had been privy to information on Chad Weiberg and the discussion emanating from multiple members of the OSU/A&M Board of Regents and one University donor. We chose not to put it out there first. However, we had a story ready after Tramel wrote and the Tulsa World published his column. We later learned of another meeting that took place more recently where the subject was discussed. We believe that Tramel was notified by a source that was at that gathering.
“I’m not a big social media guy, I don’t read stories, I got so many problems I’ve gotta fix on a day-to-day basis up here,” Morris continued in finishing his answer to the Weiberg inquiry. “I have my weekly meetings with Chad, and he’s been great as always.”
Pokes Report also has learned that Morris did meet last week, as he does regularly, with primary NIL/revenue share donor Rick Sosa of Loyal and True Marketing. Morris asked about the situation and we were told the response was this often happens at Oklahoma State.
Saturday, Oct. 3 last weekend, Loyal and True Marketing did publish on social media (Instagram/Facebook/Twitter) what would have to be considered their opinion and the stories. It was very non descript in nature. However, it is clear that Loyal and True is not involved what-so-ever in the Weiberg situation.
