STILLWATER – As expected, Oklahoma State dominated the inaugural Cowboy Invitational Wrestling Tournament presented by OnCue. In the end it was Oklahoma State with 9 of the 10 individual champions and six of the championship matches were Oklahoma State wrestlers battling each other. The three returning individual NCAA champions in sophomores Jax Forrest. Sergio Vega, and Landon Robideau were champions.
Four of the new freshmen in college wrestling No. 1 recruiting class for 2026 earned titles. The expected one was heavyweight Dreshaun Ross. At 141 pounds Jayden Raney used his riding time point to break a 5-5 tie at the buzzer with All-American Tagen Jamison for a 6-5 win. The unexpected or certainly not counted on were Mikey White, who surprised at 184 pounds, and Rocklin Zinkin at 125 pounds.
The finals started with heavyweight and Dreshaun Ross is an unbelievable sight and so athletic for a heavyweight. The word was he weighed in at 235 pounds but had no problem with much heavier wrestlers all day including Southern Illinois-Edwardsville’s Bryson Buhk in the finals.
Ross used strong double leg and single leg moves for takedowns and just kept working and finished with a 21-6 tech fall at 2:37. It didn’t even make it out of the first period.
Californian freshman Rocklin Zinkin was in control throughout his 125 pound final against another SIUE wrestler in Drew Davis. Zinkin used his quickness to gain position over and over again in a 21-7 major decision.
Jax Forrest is not only a defending NCAA individual champion at 133 pounds, but he’s a rock star. Forrest was dominant in another first period tech fall. He had falls in his two previous matches before the 20-4 tech fall over TK Davis of Gardner-Webb.
In the first of six title matches with all orange singlets on the mat, freshman Jayden Raney took an early 3-1 lead, but Tagen Jamison came back and the match was 5-5 when the buzzer sounded, but Raney had just over a minute of riding time for the victorious point and a 6-5 decision.
Raney’s twin in Jordyn had the unenviable task of going against defending NCAA Champion Sergio Vega, who has moved up to 149 pounds. Vega, who did not give up a takedown all last season was in tough spots several times. He’s amazing as his “Gumby” style allows him to escape virtually any bad position and come back and score. Vega won a 16-4 major decision.
The other defensing NCAA Champion Landon Robideau was impressive scoring early and often in a tech fall that did get into the third period. Robideau won it 22-6.
Casey Swiderski had to go to overtime and the returning All-American defeated Dee Lockett in tibreaker 2 with a 4-3 decision.
Alex Facuno was a winner in a decision at 174. Freshman Mikey White was a winner with a 10-4 decision over transfer Bennett Berge at 184. Then at 197 in a real battle that went to extra time, Little Rock’s All-American Stephen Little was awarded an injury default from the Cowboys NCAA runner-up at 197 in Cody Merrill.
Oklahoma State will open the season officially with a home dual on Sunday Nov. 8 against Drexel.
