OSU To Allow Full Capacity in GIA; Rearranges Student Section

STILLWATER – While it was anticipated news, it’s still welcomed news, nevertheless. The Oklahoma State athletic department announced a return to full capacity in Gallagher-Iba Arena in the fall of 2021.

It also announced it would be rearranging the student section, making the seating area behind the scorer’s table and the benches into additional student seats. The North and South “end zones” in GIA will remain student sections.

“We have made the decision to return the majority of the Gallagher-Iba floor seats to OSU students and, once again, make GIA America's Rowdiest Arena!”

I’m sure those seats behind the bench area was a nice little chunk of change for the athletic department each season, also a great seat for many people over the years, but I think making it a student section will only add to the intensity to GIA.

It used to be a student section for years but was changed during the Travis Ford era. While the student sections on the North and South of the court is nice, I love arenas that have students right on top of the court. It adds a whole other level of intensity to a ball game and completely changes the atmosphere. So, it’ll definitely be a welcomed nod to the history of GIA.
