Oklahoma State Takes Home Mat Decision from Columbia
NEW YORK – The Oklahoma State wrestling team defeated Columbia, 23-12, inside Levien Gymnasium to improve to 6-1 on the season. After traveling to Oregon State for a dual win last Sunday that means the Cowboys have posted wins coast to coast the last week.
The Cowboys won seven of 10 matches, highlighted by Luke Surber’s 21-6 technical fall over Javen Jovero at 197 pounds.
OSU and Columbia split the first six matches of the dual with decisions from Daton Fix, Victor Voinovich and Kaden Gfeller, yet the Pokes found themselves trailing 12-9 due to a fall at 141 pounds. Similar to the Oregon State dual, the upper weights came through to win the final four matches and secure the dual victory.
\Dustin Plott and Travis Wittlake grinded out decisions at 174 and 184 pounds to give Oklahoma State the lead, which were followed up by Surber’s tech fall that put the team score out of reach. Konner Doucet closed out the dual with a 1-0 win over Dan Conley.
The Cowboys will return home for a pair of duals to face Northern Colorado on Friday and West Virginia on Sunday. It will be the first dual in Gallagher-Iba Arena for Oklahoma State since Dec. 4.
