Jalen Pope Becomes the Fourth Commitment of the Weekend for Oklahoma State

STILLWATER – More good news for Oklahoma State football as the extended recruiting weekend of the Martin Luther King Day Monday holiday will allow for another set of official visitors starting Sunday. The first wave had four players committing to Oklahoma State. The latest is Aledo, Texas slot receiver Jalen Pope.

The 5-11, 180-pound speedster that has clocked a 4.49 in the forty joins Michigan State graduate running back Elijah Collins, former Iowa Hawkeyes and junior-to-be multiple-talented skill player and return specialist Arland Bruce IV, and Enid, Okla. All-State and record setting receiver Tykie Andrews. Andrews was also coached at Enid by Oklahoma State two-time All-American and Hall of Fame wide receiver Rashaun Woods.

Pope is an exceptional talent that was a key reason that powerhouse Aledo was able to collect another Texas State Championship this season. This year the Bearcats took the Texas Class 5A-Division I title.

Playing in AT&T Cowboys Stadium the Bearcats dominated the title game with a rousing 52-14 win over College Station. Pope had eight receptions for 228-yards and some huge explosive plays and three touchdowns. On the season, Pope was named 1st-Team District 5A-3 receiver with 64 catches for 1,252-yards and 14 touchdowns including a 19.6-yards per catch average. In his Aledo career, Pope has 82 grabs for 1,595-yards and 20 touchdowns.

The senior season was huge, and it is why Oklahoma State has jumped in where Air Force, Tulsa, Columbia and some other smaller schools were recruiting. Late developing player with great numbers playing for a high-powered winning tradition program.

Tykie Andrews of Enid committed earlier in the day.

Pope joins Tykie Andrews in a recruiting class that includes 17 other signees and six of those are on campus and enrolled with classes beginning Tuesday. That group includes quarterback Zane Flores, the Gatorade and MaxPreps Nebraska Player of the Year and junior college standouts in defensive tackle Iman Oates and All-American cornerback Lardarius Webb Jr.

Collins and Bruce IV are part of an NCAA transfer portal class that also includes nine others with quarterback Alan Bowman and University of Tulsa All-Conference defenders in linebacker Justin Wright and defensive end Anthony Goodlow. Most are on campus and ready for class on Tuesday.

I thought we had 12 portal commits?
By saying we got Bruce IV and Collins and 9 others means we are at 11. Did we lose someone that hasn't been posted yet?

We went four for four on receiver commits in the past week if you include Armand BruceIV!

Did you include Collins, the running back from Michigan State? He replaced Sean Tyler! Also, Robert/Zach you need to add Leon Johnson and Alan Bowman to the list on the front page of the site!

The kid from W. Mich changed to Minnesota on us on Friday.

Are we now cured from all of the staggering portal losses? Just give it some thought and analysis, fellow pokes. Compare who left with who is coming in. Honestly, I think it is close. Perhaps, we have even improved our circumstances. Time will tell
, but Alan Bowman will have some targets! And, with a top - down command to fix the run game by scheme and personnel, I think that aspect of the situation will be greatly improved. Hope is blossoming in this aged Cowboy lovin' heart.

The Spring workout period should go a long way in answering that question!

My curiosity on these new recruits and seeing them perform in person is tipping me toward renewing my season tickets. I'll need to see proof we have an effective O-line though before I pull the trigger. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I tend to be too optomistic, but our O-line absent a bunch of new, critical injuries should have some decent options. More depth and competition and I've seen where another possible portal addition from Big X is pending. I don't think (IMO) Dickey's the problem. We've had a lot of factors hit the line. Now will it be equal to Texas? No. But good? Yes. This is Dickey's 4th recruiting class since hired and you don't normally get strong offensive line developmental players until year 3 or 4 in normal times. Portal impacts have hit during Dickey's 1st 4 years, covid and the two disciplinary removels if I recall. We now appear to be getting depth as well as further into the portal game.....for better or worse.

Musical chairs with players each season? College football now sucks. All of this because the NCAA was afraid of lawsuits.
And there is no way to know at this point whether or not any of these guys from the portal are as good or worse than the guys who left. We have to see them play. Plus, our coaching staff does not know how to maximize talent when they get some. So I remain skeptical until I see how the next season plays out. This past season I still attribute to injuries and poor play calling. Because Gundy does not fully disclose injuries, we have no idea how many guys were playing with serious injuries which would explain why there were so bad. Plus, the much stated fact that are O-line does not know how to block. Who needs all of these receivers when the main problem is the O-line and the OC? And picking up a banged up QB is the best Gundy could do?

Better start worrying how Gundy is going to lead us to 6 wins next season.

You apparently don't know anything about football. Pope is one of the top receivers in Texas. From Aledo, Texas 11 time state championship in football. Pope broke records at state game. He has had many, many offers from D1 schools. Keep LYBFAO, I'm LMAO at you, you know nothing. How many offers have you had??

This is why the additions of Dalton Cooper and Noah McKinney are important...especially Cooper. Remember, Cole Birmingham will be back. plus a change from zone blocking might help. Furthermore, i do not think we are done portal hunting for experienced linemen. The coaches know there is a problem and are endeavoring to fix it. I believe they will.

30 + new players with about 13 (or 14 if OT is added) already experienced. This will be interesting to watch how this all comes together. One thing the portal is showing, IF you can and should play a freshman who has talent.....you had better do it as they may get frustrated and leave. So we should see 20+ of these players contribute in '23 on 1st or 2nd team!

good lord man, there is not even one factual statement .... pure conjecture and hogwash.

you should focus your time writing fiction novels.

you simply took the "talking point hate list" from the bashing forum and spewed it out here. Utter nonsense.

where do you get your nonsense, and how do you define "quality offers"?

Pope was previously committed to Air Force and held additional FBS offers from Arkansas State, Army, Navy and Tulsa. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder also had interest from several FCS programs.

247 also lists ULaLa, as offering.

That is SIX D1-A and several D1-AA offers. Louisiana was just in the Independence bowl against Houston. and that non-quality team Air Force beat B12 Baylor in the Armed Forces Bowl. Didn't we just get a couple of Tulsa's kids in the Portal, I guess they didn't go to a "quality school" either.

there is no need for you to be trashing our recruits.... you of all people. SMH

Tulsa pulled his offer once the new staff took over. Arkansas State is laughable and not a quality football program. The service academies are not real programs. They don't pull in athletes that make a difference. His offer sheet is not impressive. You all act like it's a diamond. He is not, in the heart of Texas and not one big program offered a "speedster"? Lol, come on.

You're right, he will make a great scout team guy. Will probably transfer in 2 years back to the FCS Div 2 level.

yeah, I know, and central michigan could never beat us, and Air Force didn't really beat BU in the bowl game... not really, right?

remember that RB Warren that we had last year form that unimpressive team Utah State? Yeah, that was a waste, he was not a difference maker..... ROTFLMAO

you should keep your bigotry and bias to yourself, because it does not look good on you in public.

It was one of their like 4 collectives. It raised that in 72hrs. We did ok, we aren't near where we should be. Also, had about 8k from my account, but who's counting. It doesn't matter. We all bleed orange, I just want more from a program that deserves better.
