STILLWATER – Very sad news revealed on Sunday, July 16 that popular former Oklahoma State fullback Julius Crosslin died on Saturday in Stillwater. Crosslin was 39-years-old at his time of death, which the cause for has not been revealed. One source familiar with Julius Crosslin recently said it appeared it was a heart attack, but that has not been confirmed. There has been an autopsy and results won’t be know for several weeks.

The family has been able to transport Crosslin’s body back to his hometown of Amarillo, Texas. The funerl will be Saturday, July 29 at 3 p.m. inside Palo Duro High School in the auditorium. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 28 at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Chruch (1305 NW 9th Ave.) in Amarillo. Flowers can be delivered to Golden Gates Mortuary, 1416 N. Crosslin was born on Nov. 1, 1983 and attended Amarillo Palo Duro High School where he was a football star playing safety on defense and running back on offense. He was an All-District performer that made the prestigious Amarillo Globe News Super Team.

The 5-11, 245-pound Crosslin was at Oklahoma State from 2003-2007 and then was signed as a rookie free agent by the Dallas Cowboys where he played some preseason NFL games and spent some time on the practice squad.

While at Oklahoma State, Crosslin was a key performer as a blocker and runner on offense and an all-around special teams performer. Crosslin’s career started with Les Miles as head coach and he finished as one of the pillars in the offense that helped turn OSU around under Mike Gundy. He played on four bowl teams for Oklahoma State.

Crosslin blocked for some very talented talented runner and finished himself with 145 carries for 432-yards and 23 touchdowns. His best season was the one he and OSU did not finish in a bowl game. In Mike Gundy’s rookie year as head coach he carried 71 times for 231-yards and 17 touchdowns. He played a major role in the Cowboys upset of nationally-ranked Texas Tech as he ran 14 times for 91-yards and 6.5-yards per carry.

His blocking and his production on special teams was critical and then associate head coach and special teams coordinator Joe DeForest remembered Crosslin as a leader and one of those guys that would do anything for anybody on the team. I remember Crosslin as a guy that always seemed happy and again, always had a great attitude.

Crosslin is survived by his mother Gina and two children, a son and a daughter.

Just a sad occasion for the Oklahoma State family and the Cowboys football team members from those early Mike Gundy teams. I’m sure there are members of the Dallas Cowboys staff and team back in 2008-09 that remember Crosslin as well. He was a good player that did his job and never looked for credit. He just enjoyed being a good teammate.
