It's do or die time for Coach Dickey this season. He's coaching for his job IMO.

One of my first conversations I had with Coach Dickey was how impressed I was with the amount of players that he has coached that have gone on to the next level. I look forward to what a healthy offensive line brings this year. We are fortunate to have him and his family here at OSU. Thanks for the insight. Can't wait to read Part II.

yep... Coach Dickey is great. He'll be here next year and the next if he wants, regardless of what happens.

All these interviews do nothing but makes me want the season to start tomorrow except the Oline one. I remain skeptic till we see the product on the field. Oline can make or break this season. I hope coach Dickey gets the boys ready to do some mauling.

Good offensive lines play together long enough to become a unit, and to know exactly how a guy next them is going to react in every situation.

Many years ago, Phil Steele ran an article about some regression analysis some stat geeks did on every single known stat in college football to determine the best predictor of a team's final W/L record in the pre-season.

That stat? Returning accumulated OL starts. OSU has 129 this year, UTN leads the league with 147. OSU is 7th in the league and there is a great slide down as you go done the list.

Dickey and OSU has had horrible luck with injuries, to the point I wonder what is going on with our strength and conditioning program, and practice routines.

If you go back and look, in 2021 we started off injured in the OL, starting at the Boise St game we had about 5 games in a row we had the same 5 starters, our run game flourished.

We have had some other smaller stretches of health over the last few years and again the OL did ok. OSU has not had the depth the last few years to lose 60% of its offensive line or play with guys at 70% to maintain offensive efficiency.,

Against Tulsa at home a few years ago we lost 2 starters for most of the season.

If you believe these things average out? OSU is due for a healthy OL, it is absolutely critical. Getting some health and allowing the unit to develop in to a unit will be one of the keys to the season.

Plenty of valid excuses for poor performance last season. Can't keep making excuses every season though. It's a results oriented business and the O-line hasn't met expectations for a long time. Time to get the job done or try someone else. 5 seasons is more than a lot of entire staffs get these days.

we played for the conference championship and whipped up on ND just one season ago.

we had a good OLine for that. Met everybody's expectations, just one year ago.

That is definitely "getting the job done", by anybody's standard.

no excuses needed.......

Not trying to say it's not time for improvement, but Dickey has had four full seasons so far with Covid years mixed in which likely made this period a bit strange. My hope is the OL has turned the corner as I suspect Dickey is a good coach and man, and OSU is better off keeping him around rather than going back into the OL coach carousel.

For it to have been this long (Joe Wickline days) since we've had a really good O-line is inexcusable. Injuries can cause problems once in a while but for how many YEARS on end are we going to keep throwing that out as an excuse? It's a lack of good recruiting, lack of good coaching, and lack of proper focus in the program. There should be no more excuses. Get it going with the O-line and ground attack guys, or find someone who can.

I don't think anyone would say that the O-line paved the way to that successful season. I believe most would say the O-line was the weakest link of that team. We were fortunate that we stumbled upon an NFL RB and had a mobile QB that covered for a lot of the line's inadequacies. Plus we had arguably the best defense in OSU's history. Perhaps you forgot about first and goal in the Big 12 Championship Game.

I agree with you on one point, "no excuses" going into this season.
