Cowboys Drop Third Game Of Season Despite Forcing Five Turnovers
FORT WORTH – The Oklahoma State Cowboys lose a tough one against the Horned Frogs as they lose 29-22. With the loss they drop to 6-3 in the season and are out of contention for the Big 12 title game.
On defense, the Cowboys dominated in the turnover category, finishing the game with five total takeaways. Amen Ogbongbemiga was responsible for three forced fumbles, while Malcolm Rodriguez collected one himself in the first quarter that was scooped up and returned for a touchdown by defensive end Brock Martin. Corner Thomas Harper also recorded an interception.
Amen Ogbongbemiga said postgame that the mindset behind the defense is to “try and change the game with every play.” He also added that “we lost that game as a defense, it was not the coaches. We just got to come to work now.”
The offense struggled for the entirety of the game, punting nice times in the game. Spencer Sanders went 16-for-34 for 270 yards with one touchdown and one interception. 55 of the passing yards were one touchdown to Tylan Wallace who left the game in the second half with an apparent lower leg injury.
Head Coach Mike Gundy spoke with the media after the game and said “I am extremly proud of the effort our guys have today, we just have to find a way to stop the big plays.”
Missing kicker Alex Hale was once again an issue in this one as special teams was a major struggle for the Cowboys. There were a total of three missed kicks, two of which were field goals leaving seven points on the field.
Running back Dezmon Jackson looked strong once again though in this game as he finished with 118 yard and one touchdown on 29 attempts.
The Cowboys will now try and prepare for a 2-5 Baylor team in the season finale next week in Waco. The Bears will face Oklahoma Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
