Mike Gundy Keeps Finding High Falutin Company
STILLWATER – With the 31-23 win last Wednesday in the 2023 Tax Act Texas Bowl the Oklahoma State Cowboys finished 10-4 on the season for the 8th 10-win season under Mike Gundy and Gundy has been a part of all the Oklahoma State 10-win seasons other than 1984 in Pat Jones first year as head coach. The other two 10-win seasons under Jones in 1987 and 1988 Gundy was the starting quarterback.
Gundy is now 166-79 overall in his coaching career and is just four games out of third on the most wins at the current school list as Nick Saban has 206 at Alabama to lead and Dabo Swinney has 170 at Clemson and is just ahead of Gundy. The Oklahoma State head coach is 12-6 in bowl games and that is good for a tie with Lou Holtz, Urban Meyere, and Tom Osborne for sixth all-time.
Now a new list as Gundy is tied for eighth for most consecutive winning seasons at one school and the names ahead of him read like the Hall-of-Fame with Bowden, Bryant, and Osborne. Just ahead of Gundy with 19 straight winning seasons are Darrell Royal at Texas and Lavell Edwards at BYU. Tied with Gundy at 18 are Bob Stoops from Oklahona and Fielding Yost from Michigan. Below the group with 18 consecutive winning seasons is Nick Saban with 17 at Alabama.
