STILLWATER – Make no mistake that this is a column and not an article. Zach Lancaster has the article on this story after attending a lengthy media availability today with Oklahoma State basketball head coach Mike Boynton and player Eric Dailey Jr. Zach will have the balance measuring comments that Boynton made in the story to Haisten in The Tulsa World and the answers he had today in the news conference at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

This is the day that Mike Boynton broke.

OSU basketball has been a "wreck" since Eddie's wreck in 2006. We are 18 years into this with just a few bright spots. The problems with Sean (I like the Suttons and was neighbors at one time with Sean)....10 years of mediocre with Ford that now looks good....one year with "Bad Underwear" and whatever Holder did or failed to do contractually....now seven years of problems, some self inflicted...some bad luck...some involving the NCAA hack job...Is this 18 years acceptable? Not to me. I had season tickets for years. I have been to one game in the past few years and that is about all I can do to say to the leadership....FIX IT!!!.....Fire Boynton whom I like or keep Boynton and get the NIL $$$ to compete with how sports work now....get the basketball facility built....JUST FIX IT!!!...I am not wealthy but contribute at times and will again. Get a plan together and LET'S FIX IT!!! Boynton is not the only one frustrated!!! WEIBERG GETS PAID TOO!!!....FIX IT!!!

Leonard Hamilton wasn't fired. He took another job of his own doing. Believe it was Miami of Florida.

what a bunch a malarky...... NIL is why I'm failing not my coaching... bleh

We lost our players to teams that don't have any better NIL than we do. Seriously.

Boone is at freaking UNLV. Cisise, they don't have better NIL. Did Anderson really got a great deal to ride the bench at TCU.

This is all a bunch of crap. None of our players went anywhere to speak of. I just can't stand this freaking excuse maker.

The one aspect that has been lacking in the Cowboys program is overall success. More wins, tournament invitations, are the only thing that fans complain about with their head coach.

We complain about those things, because that is what he is hired to do. I don't care if he is handsome and well spoken. I don't care if he has a nice family. I don't even care if his players like him (apparently they don't because they leave in droves every single year).

This guy did not have any adverse circumstances - that is yet another load of crap. Everybody lost the Covid year, why does he get an excuse, the team was borderline bubble at the time. Same with many teams. So we got banned one post season, we were not going to make the tournament anyway. We have not yet even served our scholarship restrictions, so how could that have impacted his past season?

It's all excuses and bullcrap. This guy is more concerned about BLM and race baiting than he is about winning basketball at OSU. His stich just isn't cutting it.

Rodeo Poke. I'm not here to discuss whether Coach Boynton is a good coach or not. But you don't know what you are talking about when you say none of the programs that we lost players to have better NIL programs than us. I have personally been involved with NIL for OSU basketball and have donated my time and made 5 figure donations specifically for basketball. TCU, SMU, Ohio State and Ole Miss not only have the resources but more importantly have donors there that want their basketball teams to be successful and are willing to commit their personal funds to NIL to try to achieve that success. It is pretty much a given that the majority of the schools we recruit against have good basketball facilities. The players want money they can spend personally. Robert is right about many of players are driving brand new cars that have been leased. But the cost of leasing all those cars combined were less than what some of our players have received after transferring to other schools. Some players leave for more playing time but the really good players leave for money.

I have no problem with your comments and perspective to this article. I agree that coach should have just kept grinding. However, I think it should be noted that recruiting is ongoing and if we are dead bottom in NIL, maybe it was time to see if the fan base can help bring in some quality players to go with and keep our freshmen studs here. I think he probably has no choice but to publicly let everyone know it won't get better if NIL doesn't change. These things are facts not excuses. He readily admits that he and his assistants need to be better and we need to win more games. In response to Mississippi and TCU giving our former players more money, no brainer they are working at a higher level and more support. My opinion is Boone needed to move on for both parties involved.

Lastly, my wife and I commented the other night as we were watching the Texas Tech crowd going crazy and players responding with a blowout win over Kansas, how many of those close loses at GI would have been victories with that kind of support from us. If you want a winner, do your part and show up. This team could have a little more confidence and a better record with a little magic from fans in IBA. We are all responsible for that record and the FUTURE record.

Maybe the coach should give a million dollars from his salary until this thing can be turned around.

This guy is more concerned about BLM and race baiting than he is about winning basketball at OSU.

Your race comments attributed to the coach are absolute 100% BS! Complain about the results. That's totally fair but not that race baiting nonsense.

Wrong again! If you don't follow the sport maybe you should not comment.

We took 2 scholarship hits in 2023, when Russell Harrison was ruled ineligible.

We have this year and next year to take the other scholarship hit. I believe that we're taking the hit this year, which is not yet complete and hence could not have impacted his past seasons.

What did I miss there? I'm certainly not infallible, but I believe my comment was correct.

do your homework, it is in the press.

I'm not going to rehash it all here once again.

His comments to the black coaches association, his statements about hiring and promoting black coaches, his promotion of John Thompson long, long after even Patrick Ewing stopped wearing his towel. There's more.

The guy has an agenda, and he even was quoted as saying that he hoped it didn't come at the expense of winning.

Not BS, and it totally affects winning at OSU.

Who are those "really good players", and how much more money did they get by going to those schools?

No broad generalities, time for the rubber to meet the road.

We just brought in a top 10 class.... and we were able to do that because of our bad NIL?

I'm sure ours could be improved, but for half of his HC career, NIL did not even exist, and he could not keep players on the roster then.

Your comment was that he was "more concerned about BLM and race baiting than he is about winning basketball at OSU."

That's one hell of an accusation! More concerned about Race baiting?!? Do you know coach? Have you met him? Have you spent anytime with him? Do you know who he is? I'll stick with it being absolute BS that you think he cares more about that than winning.

So...."We have not yet even served our scholarship restrictions...."

You're not missing anything as long as your math of serving 2 scholarships last year and one this year equals zero.

NO MORE EXCUSES.

This year is not over, and we don't play the guys we have, so knock it off that one more lost ship this year is ruining his career. He could have taken another player and taken the scholarship hit next year.

Stop with the excuses already.

If I counted correctly we only have 11 scholarship players, which means he could have taken another player THIS YEAR.

The scholarship restrictions only applied to LAST SEASON, when we're taking about his lack of success. This year is not over yet.

I have never seen anything this pathetic in my 40 years of watching Cowboy basketball.

Coach Boynton needs to go sit down with Chris Young and get a tutorial on how to build a program.

To clarify my comment.... I was not making excuses for the coach's or team's performance. Nor did I say that "one more scholarship was ruining his career as you stated." That's a dumb argument and I would never say that. This season has been awful and there is a lot of valid criticism of the program.

I was simply pointing out that you were incorrect about the scholarship issue and facts matter when commenting.

To continue on that point and to your comment that the Pokes could have taken another player this year.....They actually did. The Pokes had another scholarship player on the roster at the start of the season. Isaiah Miranda was a transfer from NC St and it was reported just one month ago that he left the team related to personal matters and he was seeking professional opportunities. Not sure what they are and I don't want to speculate.

I was not and I am not incorrect about the scholarship issue or facts. How many dang times do I have to say it?

We have TWO vacant scholarship spots, the one that Miranda vacated and the one that he could have postponed until next season if it was a problem for the program. (two years left to take one more hit)

The fact that he cannot effectively evaluate players or commitment is the problem, not NCAA sanctions.

McBride is barely playing now, 6.7 min/game, 2.8 ppg. Marsh is not much help, Marsh is 12.6 mpg and 4.1 ppg. Even if he had brought in another player, it's doubtful that individual would have been "better" than these 2 guys, or he would have brought them in instead.

Miranda was a flush, he's brought in so many "flushes" that I've totally lost count.

Just stop with the excuses. I am not wrong, I don't make things up and frankly I would prefer that OSU was successful in basketball even if it meant keeping this creepy coach around.

No more excuses. Frankly if we win out (LMAO) it would not matter to me, what "might" matter is if he can for once keep a roster together... but he already started whining about NIL and it won't be his fault.

Your words...."We have not yet even served our scholarship restrictions...."

To clarify again....I am not making excuses. I'm not even defending the coach or team's performance. I am simply pointing out that you are wrong about the scholarship restrictions and that they have been served. For a guy that says he's not infallible you are having a hard time admitting that the Pokes actually have served scholarships restrictions after your saying that they had not.

My only conclusion is either words only matter to you occasionally or that you are struggling with the English language. I apologize if it's your second language....Prefieres espanol?

Either way it's become obvious to me that you will never admit to being wrong. Good luck Oh Infallible One!

how can the scholarship restrictions have been served, if we're still serving them? (tense matters)

get out of here.

and you can stop already with the pejorative comments about my language skills, insulting others is not a valid method of civil discourse.
