Carson Benge Tabbed Multi-Player of the Week Following Performance Against BYU

STILLWATER – The weekly awards for Oklahoma State’s Carson Benge came pouring in on Monday following his performance against BYU this past weekend as was tabbed not only the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, but also the D1 Baseball Player of the Week.

The sophomore out of Yukon, OK, was crucial to the Pokes’ success this past week from both the plate and the mound as they went 4-0, including the series sweep of BYU and a mid-week win over regional rivals, ORU.

Benge raked through four games as he posted a .471 average from the plate, hitting five homeruns, at least one in each of the four games, as well as hitting a team-high 10 RBIs. That .471 average included 25 total bases, two doubles, four walks and an insane slugging percentage of 1.471. Oh, and he also had a stolen base as well. Just a little cherry on top.

In the series against the Cougars, Benge was great as he went 6-for-11 with four homers and six RBIs. He also scored eight of the Pokes’ 40 runs over the weekend. Both of those numbers are crazy.

Then from the mound, Benge got his first start of the season in the series opener against BYU, going five innings and giving up three hits and just one run to a season-high six strikeouts. According to Oklahoma State athletics media relations, Benge had not gone more than one inning in each of his previous 14 appearances.

So far, Benge is only the second Cowboy this season to pick up a weekly conference honor, joining pitcher Robert Cranz who was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week back on April 15.
