STILLWATER – Okkahoma State offensive line caoch Charlie Dickey has a good problem and it may be present at some others schools, but you would be hard pressed to find the COVID super senior logjam more present than what it is in the Cowboys offensive line room. Okay, what is a super semior? It is a creation of the NCAA policy after the 2020 COVID-19 football season where schools played a shortened season (the Big 12 played 10 games) or some schools played no football.

Hope no one gets frustrated and decides to sit out and try portal next opportunity. Interesting to me that I believe 3 of these starters were at a different college or portal additions. (If I recall, Brooks was a straight juco recruit.)

NIL scholarships?

What does that even mean?

We have more than 85 scholarship players? Is that similar to putting walk-ons on financial aid scholarships?

Do they count against the walk-on limit, or can a team have unlimited players again?

Brooks transferred from Vanderbilt ahead of the 2022 season

Rodeo, I think that's the equivalent of a "preferred walk-on". They get full team benefits but room, tuition & fees, and other educational expenses are paid by NIL. They would not count against the 85 scholarship limit. I think NIL has made that rule moot.

so, are you saying that we're back to the "dark ages" where OU, Texas and Nebraska would buy up 150-200 players to keep other schools from getting any?

No, because there are still roster limits.

I don't see Calvin Harvey in the 3 deep. I had understood that he was a potential starter.

so... I found articles that claim there is no limit by the NCAA, and I also found this Yahoo article discussing changes in the NCAA rules to reduce the roster size .

The NCAA is reportedly considering a change to football roster limits that could reduce the number of players on a team from 120 to between 85-95, according to Yahoo Sports. College teams are only allowed a maximum of 85 scholarship players on a roster, which could then jeopardize any room for walk-ons.

Rodeo, the roster limit has been 120 for a long time. I don't think there would be much support among the power four conferences to reduce that number.

Kip, I see web info that says there are currently no limitations on walk-ons. Perhaps preferred walk-ons are limited up to the 120 (85 scolly's + 35 pwo's). There is talk of a $20mm limit on monies to players on D-1 teams which seems incredibly high to me.

Also interesting to me to see we have 3 or 4 guys who have started at times now on the 2nd and 3rd teams. And if we rotate an entire line to give the 1st team a rest, we not only get bigger but Dodson at 6-6 308 is the smallest guy!
