Bowman and Gordon Better Together and Better Now Than Ever

Long term fans know Gundy is not a fan of turnovers. We recall his Pat Jones story of what put him into a starting role as a freshman and the Big XII record Gundy held for passing attempts without an interception. Most of us probably think this qb room has 2 or 3 guys not named Bowman who would have been welcome starters in the last 60 years. So based on all that and Bowman's 15/14 touchdown to interception ratio, it's obvious Gundy and Rattay see something about Bowman that has him so clearly in the qb driver's seat. Perhaps it's his freshman performance at Tech and the hope his freshman, conference record magic strikes again. Whatever it is that makes Gundy fairly comfortable with 15/14, (but still the returning passing yards leader in Big XII), here's hoping AB knocks it out of the park this season.

He will be a really good QB if he can just get his TD/INT ratio up to 3 or 4. He's already doing everything else.

While the # of INT was way too high, placing such importance on his TD/INT ratio doesn't make a lot of sense with the way we like to run the ball inside the 10, handing it off to the best RB in the nation who had the 2nd most rushing TD's in D1. Couldn't care less who scores the TD, just don't turn the ball over.

I'm sorry, but I probably couldn't name 5 of the 14 qb's that bested him in the longest streak w/o an interception. Give me hard data. Not a bunch of stats that at any given point for a college qb would be easily attainable. I honestly hope he has an amazing year. However, he throws off his back foot often. The vast majority of his balls are 50/50 balls (get your mind out of the gutter). His pocket presence isn't anything to write home about. Again, I hope he has a great year. Contrary to Orange, unless he's granted an 8th year of eligibility, this year will be bon voyage for his qb career. As someone on here likes to say, Next man up!!

all of that is likely true to an extent....

but I will also remind you that 1) he had not started a game in 3 seasons, 2) he played sparingly and sporatically in the first 3 rotation games (how many INTs in that mess?) 3) the WRs were an issue in early games, esp after Stribling went out, 4) the OLine had some new faces, and position changes (birmingham back from injury tried at LT but was moved to guard when it was apparent he wasn't quite ready), 5) some of those INTs simply were not his fault, with guys running wrong routes, tipped balls, etc.

I'm just pointing out that despite all the things that you listed, he still compiled an impressive list of statistics, some of the conference honors that ARE NOT easy to obtain.

This year most of those factors probably affecting INTs, that you listed do not exist this season, and one does have to wonder if throwing off balance and off the back foot was not out of shear desperation do to offensive breakdowns and bad routes.

I am not suggesting that Bowman is one of the top QBs that we've ever had, but he is plenty good enough to keep this team producing at a high level.
