And When You Think It Can't Get Worse and It Does

STILLWATER – Over the years I’ve found that Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy is like a lot of coaches including his college head coach Pat Jones. After a win, they can be a little tempetuous and even be combative. Pat Jones often was, but after a loss much more reflective and much easier to ask questions and gain answers.

Seems like there is little sense of urgency. The announcers were encouraging Ollie to sit out the rest of the season due to the nonexistent blocking so he does not ruin his opportunity in the NFL. I wouldn't blame him. Continuing to do the same thing (blaming coaches) and not make changes during this next weekend off will make sure the bowl streak is over. Coaching? Talent? Stale offensive play calling? No defensive pressure on the QB? All of these? Yep......GO POKES!!!

Our team has lost the line of scrimmage on both offense and defense for the last four games. Our problems start there, and our team stands little chance of winning until that changes.

I was proud of Freshman David Kabongo's effort there at the end. He was credited with 4 tackles it seems like it was more. I believe these were his first snaps to play. Good stuff…

Reality is that this team was bad last year too. We just lost whatever luck we were running on. Program is so so stale. There is no recognizable scheme on either side of the ball and there's nothing going on in recruiting to suggest that the ship is getting righted any time soon.

I can tell you when we play next the offense will run it up the middle twice gain maybe a yard and have two throw with pressure which Bowman isn't any good at. I don't understand where we are going as a program. We thought this year would show we are here at the top after the other two left. We are tied for dead last. Mass changes coming hopefully. The Nardo Dunn experiment need to go. If he would stay on as a WR coach I wouldn't mind Dunn staying but I doubt that.

Mr Allen, u are a homer Gundy said it too
Thought our o line was gonna be good. Worst coaching and game planning I've scene since Dunn was O coordinator. He should perhaps find a job as a receiver coach.
Then our Defense, if u call it that lol. Awful. Stop being a homer.

Yup, I agree Eddie! It may be time for them, the Coaches, to consider giving playing time to younger players! I told you today the guard play has not been good all season and I feel they should give the two younger guys Davis Dotson and Austin Kawicki a shot because both are ready now to go full time! I am now very much in the camp now of putting Flores and Maeli Smith out there and let's see what they can do under center!!! Probably have to really hit the portal hard once it opens in December! I was told by someone who would know that the two red dirt concerts next April, which is going to help NIL, will generate approximately $2 million dollars in NIL revenue!

Interesting stat that was put out by both Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb toward the end of the game broadcast! John said that last year defenses weren't touching Ollie until he was a full two yards downfield from the line of scrimmage which means your O line was getting good push and controlling the LOS! This year through the first six games Ollie is either met at the LOS or maybe a half yard downfield!!! Huge, Huge difference! It seems no better on the Dline as people just seem to gash us with the run!!!

ahh... that is ONE THING that it could mean.

It could also suggest that Ford, Schultz, Stribling are as good at lead blockers as we had last year. and... Ollie was much better than he's been this year. Ollie looks like his freshman year where he runs into the line and falls down - no side steps, no dancing, no vision, and no yards

Unfortunately, I think it gets much worse from here. I don't see a win on our schedule from here on out. We are getting worse and not better. This team rallied last year and played for each other. Their goals are gone and the Team (culture) is fractured. We got lucky and found lightening in a bottle with the run game and rode it out to the end. We got progressively worse last year after OU. Let's face it, we can't out talent anyone. Last year was a magical year with a lot of luck involved.

This team isn't playing together or for each other. Our coaches are the worst in the conference. Honestly, who would trade with us. Our opponents going forward all have all improved week to week with youth, with the exception of TCU. Our fans have quit and don't believe the deception anymore.

Our future does not look bright without Immediate action. Gundy has to make a statement with these crap coaches we have. There has to be demotions at the minimum. There needs to be a full on effort to see what we have with our younger guys and who can play. This allows us to get them experience, see where we need to focus with the portal, and keeps fans interested. Of course, none of this will happen and we will continue to tell fans we got out coached and out played week in and week out.

Face the facts! 1. Bowman needs to become a mentor or move on. 2. Offensive play calling is so predictable my junior high son could call defense against us. 3. Defense is hesitant in decision making and not tackling good at all. 4. Listening to all the coach talk is making me sick. Man up. Players are paid! Stop protecting them. Call them out. I agree Ollie looks like a freshman again. I guess he got paid and so what's it matter. I am an Alumni and a life long fan and this is not ok. If we were in the games and getting beat by a score, that is one thing. But, we aren't even being competitive. Something has to give and I hope Gundy can figure it out and make the decisions he needs to.

Unfortunately in this era of NIL it is very likely that offseason our players, coaches, OSU administration and even fans were more concerned with developing NIL packages to keep players from leaving rather than developing individual skills, coaching schemes, and implementing the correct players/coaches into those roles.

What a waste of money!

This can't be further from the truth. They rolled the exact same team back. It's not like you had 20 new players. The coaches have failed, that's the bottom line.

This team is not competitive. It's difficult but not impossible to simply compete with no running game. It's impossible to compete with no running game and ineffective to terrible QB play.

It's always been difficult for me to imagine our QB can be effective given his horrific mechanics and well below average arm. I will no longer even try to imagine.

well.. other than that is exactly what Gundy said they did not do.... yeah, other than that... SMH

with Spencer leaving abruptly, Illingworth leaving because of Sanders, and our next best option Gundy also leaving, it has left our QB position in a hole that we haven't gotten out of. Bowman, on paper, looked like he might fit the bill in our emergency situation, but he has not turned out to the be savior that we had hoped for.

remember back in the day when we brought in the new QB coach to help fix all of these issues?

Frankly I've seen better QB play from Aso Pogi than what we have on the roster now (maybe I'm judging the 2 freshmen too harshly, if not, then get them in the game)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This, I think Bowman is probably just slightly above average and is probably serviceable as a distributor if he has a strong running game! However, no running games and he isn't going to do much! We were lucky in 2022 with Sanders running ability and speed to hide some of those running game issues, WHICH WE HAD THAT YEAR!!! Once he basically went out the second half of the season we were 1-6 with Rangel and G Gundy at QB!!!

Sorry, Joe. If our QB was slightly above average I should be able to identify at least a couple QBs in a 16 team league that are worse. I can't.

If asked to name players that have consistently outperformed their opposite number on the other team, Black would be the only one I could think of. We are just getting whipped. The three teams we have lost to are not world beaters. At this point you have to start playing younger players- at least they will find out what they have to do in the off season to compete.

Jaylin Daniels, Kansas (Jimmy Bean was a better QB and leader the last two years, Daniels has been all hype))

Sawyer Robertson, Baylor (Aranda has totally screwed up the Baylor Offense, Robertson replaced the original starter who they got from the portal)

KJ Jefferson, UCF (I thought he would be great but has a less than 60% completion % and almost as many interceptions as touchdowns, he could get pulled in the next couple of games)

Donovan Smith, Houston (replaced by a sophomore backup QB who helped lead them to victory over TCU)

I am AGREEING WITH YOU GUMBY, I know you are frustrated and so am I and everyone else! I try not to deal in bulls***! I said put both Flores and the true freshman Maeli Smith out there and let's see what they can do! Also THEY HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH GUARDS, those two spots are killing us, look at the replay of the game on YOUTUBE when it is posted!!! We also REALLY MISS JOSIAH JOHNSON AND HIS DEVASTATING BLOCKS THAT WOULD SEAL OFF THE END AND LED TO A BUNCH OF BIG RUN PLAYS LAST YEAR!!!

As far as the defense, I give up!!! I have no idea what we are doing except for the fact that OSU gave up 389 yards rushing to West Virginia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder what Rodney Fields could do? He is QUICK and could power thru a smaller gap. Why not give him a chance? I agree with getting some of our younger OL guys in the lineup. Get them some reps...who knows maybe they'll move some people out of the way.

I personally don't want a true freshman having to run behind that line. I don't see how Howland hasn't gotten more run.

So PFF has Kabongo credited with 5 tackles and ESPN with 4. Either way, it was a strong outing and as it sits Kabongo is second among Freshman Safeties in tackles. He did that in 17 snaps. Pretty impressive.

Some of these guys in this freshman class including Caleb, have some definite talent and skill Eddie!
