Oklahoma State Finishes Big 12 Play Winless Following 52-0 Blowout Loss to Colorado

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State goes winless in conference play for the first time since 1994 as the Pokes get blown out by Colorado, 52-0.

With the loss, the Cowboys finish the 2024 season 3-9 overall and 0-9 in Big 12 play.

“I told the team it’s been a rough couple of months for everybody,” head coach Mike Gundy told Robert Allen on the postgame. “One thing that’s important that we do is we’ve got to be honest with everybody that’s involved, and the players have gone through an extremely difficult two months. Last week we played well enough to win and today we couldn’t make a play, and it’s tough. But they continued to compete, I watched them, even though they got beat on a play or two, there were two or three deep balls that were contested. Travis Hunter went up and caught a couple of them, No. 10 caught one. Now, I’m not trying to say any of that is acceptable or good enough, but it’s important to me to evaluate them and make comments based on effort they were giving us. We did the one thing that you absolutely couldn’t do, is go on the road and turn the ball over twice inside the 20 yard line and give them two touchdowns.”

The Cowboys finished the game with a miserable 147 total yards, 77 through the air and 70 on the ground. Just a few minutes into the fourth quarter, the Cowboys had more penalty yards, 79 on nine flags, than total yards as they had just 65 yards following a sack of Alan Bowman. That included negative five rushing yards.

The Cowboys recorded just 10 first downs on the day, going 3-of-15 on 3rd down and recorded nine penalties for 79 yards. They also had four turnovers, two interceptions and two lost fumbles.

The fourth quarter was better from a rushing standpoint as they finally got into the positive yardage rushing the ball.

"To be honest with you, it was so bad, it would be hard to point something out,” Gundy said after the game. “You're being kind to us. We never could generate any momentum, one, as you've watched us a long time. Our offense, most offenses, are built about some momentum getting going. We never could generate anything. We had a number of passes that were competitive, and we didn't come up with them. And we had a missed throw or two, and I don't really feel like we run blocked very well. But the big picture is I just don't think we had a good plan. I don't think our plan was very good, and for that reason, we never could get the ball rolling and it just became a very difficult day."

True freshman quarterback, Maealiuaki Smith, got his second-straight start, but this one did not go well at all as he finished going 11-of-29 for just 70 yards and two interceptions, having been replaced by Bowman one play into the fourth quarter after he threw a pick six from the OSU end zone to former Cowboy DJ McKinney.

Bowman played the fourth quarter, finishing the game going 1-of-5 passing for seven yards and two carries for negative 10 yards.

Trent Howland led the way rushing the ball with nine carries for 57 yards coming in the fourth quarter.

On the other side, the defense allowed 471 total yards, 438 coming through the air, with Colorado recorded 26 first downs. The Cowboys did, however, recorded six sacks.

One of the few bright spots on the day came

Gundy postgame: "We played pretty well defensively."

Please Lord don't tell me he's planning to retain Nardo

Donate to "Pokes with a Purpose" to help make a difference. Don't just complain but help the effort out. Gundy will do his job...hopefully...next Wednesday, with coaches and buying a new team with all who are leaving. A shockingly bad season that is unacceptable during the most dangerous time in evolving modern college football. Massive improvement next year or South Dakota State may be a conference rival. GO POKES!!!

I'm seeing that Mike gundy said this in his radio interview:

"People who are fans of Oklahoma State need to realize that there will be seasons like this."

Really hope this isn't true, $7.75M a year and this is what we need to get used to? I really hope that's hearsay

Time to hire Zac Robinson as head coach.

And Zac can bring in some of his NFL friends as OC and DC.

I'm only doing it because Gundy is in the "throwing the fanbase under the bus" club

yeah... wink, wink, wink.

you're doing it because you know more than Gundy and it's eating at your craw that he is so much better than you.

move on from it already.

Never said I know more than Gundy lol. Do you expect people to be happy and partying here after losing 52-0 to just an above average team? This wasn't the Joe Burrow LSU Tigers.

However I would accept one sixteenth of Gundy's salary and believe I could've provided the same results in big 12 play this year. Far less than $1M per loss!

Think I could figure out a way to lose 52-0

well you clearly think more of yourself than I do. I don't think you'd even last through the off season.

lol I'm not saying I'm a better coach than Gundy or saying anything about offseason prep. I'm saying if you dropped me in the HC role after the non con, I could've achieved the same record for a much lower price! Are you arguing that I'd do worse than 0-9 in 9 games somehow?

I'm trying understand how you expect there would be tons of optimism posts excited about what transpired Friday

OMG and if I dropped you in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean you could swim back home too? SMH

moving on

What point are you even attempting to argue here? That I couldn't lose 9 out of 9 games? Are you arguing I should be happy that the highest paid staff in the conference was the only staff not to win a single conference game?

Why are you expecting this place to be sunshine and rainbows after getting blanked 52-0 on a national broadcast. What is this forum supposed to look like in your perfect world?

Fans have a voice and should be allowed to voice their opinions about the product they're paying in to when it's not good enough. I'm not sitting here threatening people or their families or personally insulting anyone. Why are you defending Gundy throwing the fanbase under the bus and calling people sensitive, but jumping all over people and being hypersensitive about it when the fans dare to question Gundy?

There's a logical disconnect for me when you don't seem to understand people being frustrated with such abysmal results. You say we're throwing people under the bus, so is a 3-9 record nobody's fault then?

Would be nice to see passion from Gundy like the GTech coach showed last night. I get he's been doing it forever. On other forums some "insiders" say he's lost the team. Says they practice horrible all week and Gundy says it was great. Players don't listen to him. I'm excited for what's to come. This program won't be down for long hopefully. Go Pokes!

Donating before changes is insanity.

"Loyal and true" is not insanity. Complaining without contributing to the "fix", in today's college football environment, is like a spoiled child not helping until they get what they want. That is insanity. Grow up.

You act like it's a bad thing for a fanbase to care and have expectations. Would you prefer apathy? That's how football programs become Kansas, Cal, or Northwestern

When this program has been at its best, we've had elite coordinators. We don't have that on either side of the ball right now. I support Mike Gundy moving forward, but it's time for him to make some significant changes to his staff.

Carson Cunningham said it's being reported the changes being made won't take long and could happen as soon as this weekend. What those changes are who knows.
