Jeff Roberson Reportedly Now A Sooner Linebacker
STILLWATER – Multiple sources confirmed to Pokes Report that for the second time in as many days a former Oklahoma State defender is joining the football program at the University of Oklahoma. On Monday, it was announced that former four-star standout athlete at Beggs and a starter at safety and then at linebacker in Stillwater, Kendal Daniels is heading to OU. Now, Jeff Roberson, a player that was often identified as a “Cowboy culture” type player, is heading to OU and has committed. Reports were Roberson saw the new linebackers coming in through the portal. He had to know that Oklahoma State and the new defensive staff were going to look to improve at that position.
Roberson went into the transfer portal on Monday after meeting with members of the staff. The redshirt senior out of Choctaw and before that Harrah High School had his biggest impact season at linebacker for the Pokes this past season. He had worked the inside linebacker Nick Martin played all through the spring with Martin out. Then with Nick Martin going out with injury early in the year, Roberson moved right back into that position.
He played in all 12 games this past season, recording 58 total tackles, 42 of which were solo stops. He had 8.5 tackles for a loss of 39 yards, 3.0 sacks for a loss of 22 yards, one interception and seven quarterback hurries.
The best game of his career came against West Virginia this past season where he recorded 12 total tackles, six of which were solo stops, 2.0 tackles for loss and one sack. Oklahoma State lost the contest 38-14.
Roberson redshirted his first season in Stillwater in 2020, recorded four total tackles in 2021, missed 2022 due to injury and recorded 10 total tackles in 2023. He has played special teams and been a grinder coming back from injury and working to find his spot on the field.
Daniels, on the other hand, has been a starter at both safety and linebacker, he has struggled with consistency. What we heard from Oklahoma is the Sooners plan on playing Daniels as an edge pass rusher (their Jack position). He would play 15-20 snaps a game in third-down passing situations, other obvious pass situations, and two-minute scenarios.
