Commentary: Oklahoma State Needs Two Non-Conference Heavyweights - Including Bedlam

The preseason AP Top 25 clarifies the assignment: the league has depth, not dazzle. If Oklahoma State wants December relevance, schedule two helmets and keep one buy game — with Bedlam as a priority.

STILLWATER, Okla. — The preseason AP Top 25 didn’t change much for Oklahoma State. It confirmed the gap. The Cowboys remain the only Big 12 program with a top-10 opponent on the 2025 slate (No. 7 Oregon). In a league long on depth and short on dazzle, one marquee game isn’t enough.

Bedlam again? Really? Are you a sooner sleeper cell?

This isn't going to happen for years at best. And when it does, we should be compensated and compensated well.

The down side to your theory that you didn't broach, how does it help if we were to loose both of those games?

Have not missed OU in the least. But the one thing that might turn me to agree with this concept would be IF our recruiters and coaches believe this game is a net gain for OSU, regardless of the resource advantages OU has over OSU. This gain would have to come in terms of team impacts (recruiting, intensity, game growth), monetary impacts and/or national attention and standing. I can't personally understand how it's helpful to play a team with such a slanted revenue advantage.

First of all...the AP poll is BS for the most part. Three weeks in and it will be jumbled and mean little. Anytime the AP lists OU in the top 25, after their dismal last season and with their SEC schedule ahead, it is a joke.

No to the Sewerners.....AGAIN!....Play them in the CFP and rip their lungs and souls out.

One heavyweight....one even contest....one practically automatic win. Must get to 6 - 7 wins for a bowl game. Every decade get into the CFP which is going to be more and more difficult with the cluster duck football has become where those with the most money buy their team annually.

Even though you are renowned for your "Cajun Tailgate", probably well deserved, your "boil" for the Sewerners
seems to be at the less than spicey level. Ha!

Thanks for your well researched article. Glad you are contributing to PR!

Let's worry about beating A big 12 opponent first. Not interested until the playing field is even. Right now the most money gets the win. Our best bet to make any playoff is to win our conference.

Bingo, if Zero U does the Nebraska thing and becomes a perennial second division SEC TEAM does a win over them really help, We crashed and burned last year but if that had not happened and say we win 10 games does a win over a 6-6 Arkansas do much for you other than they have the SEC logo attached to them? The other factor as Pedro pointed out is the potential to lose two of your three non conference games!!! DOUBLE NEGATIVE GREY GHOST!!!

I don't necessarily believe that playing 0u would be a big boon to us in recruiting in this new day and age. We are doing just fine with in state prospects and outside of this region, it's not a big deal to most kids. If it brought us in loads more revenue to use in NIL, then sure, and only a home game in Stillwater would move the needle there.

Count me amongst the ones who never cares if we play them again in football.

Well at least now that we can BOTH pay our players, it makes things a little more even.

OU has nearly twice our athletic budget monies...approx. $210 million vs $130 million....and around double our NIL, about $4 million vs $2 million. Even?!

God I love people that like to argue about words that you didn't say.

I said a little more even, not EVEN. The point is they have been paying their players for 70 years and we generally complied with the law.

I also think your NIL numbers on OSU are low. Can someone update us. I heard we spend $5M on NIL over and above the revenue sharing.
