Report: Oklahoma State DL Iman Oates Receives Temporary Restraining Order Against NCAA

STILLWATER – Some potentially good news for Oklahoma State football late Wednesday night as defensive lineman, Iman Oates, has received a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, according to a report from Pete Nakos of On3.

Oates’ attorney, Ryan Downton, filed the injunction against the NCAA in Payne County court back on July 10, which is what was approved on Wednesday.

This means Oates is allowed to rejoin the team ahead of the start of fall camp, which begins on Thursday, August 5. Just like in the case with OSU basketball guard Kashie Natt, the TRO against the NCAA allows Oates to rejoin team activities until the Payne County court rules on his motion.

Oates, who has spent the past three seasons with Oklahoma State, is 23 years old, which means he’s still inside the five-year window from his 19th birthday, a new rule which was put into place by the NCAA in the spring. Prior to his time in Stillwater, Oates played two seasons at NEO Junior College in Miami, OK, meaning he should still have an extra year of eligibility due to precedent set by Diego Pavia’s lawsuit against the NCAA.

Oates has recorded 39 total tackles across 24 games, with five tackles for loss and two sacks, one pass break up and one forced fumble. He redshirted in 2023.
