ESPN's Tom Lugenbill Weighs In on Conference Realignment

STILLWATER – A couple of weeks ago, after listening to ESPN’s Tom Lugenbill on national radio talking about conference realignment, I text him and asked if he could see any scenario where Oklahoma State would not end up being a member of a power conference? Lugenbill’s answer was, “likely, yes.” It was not a definite, but at the time I took it as a positive.

Since then, more rumors and likely some real information has surfaced.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Robert:

This first paragraph is extremely confusing. You asked him if you see a scenario where we DON'T end up in a power conference, and replies "likely, yes". Do you want to maybe rephrase that? The way it is worded does not seem positive at all.

I thought one and several of the paragraphs were confusing... including the conclusion.

Let's get our pokes to the SEC or the Pac-whatever and end this nightmare.

Yes, hard to reconcile that first "likely" we might not end up in a power conference in some scenarios was a positive. Perhaps it's a reflection that there's a realistic chance we expand the Remaining Eight with 4 or 6 schools that help keep the conference a "power alternative" conference to the AAC, rather than falling into an already existing power conference alignment with one of the other four.

I read it three times and I still don't know what it means.

Stop asking double negative questions for one, Robert. It's terrible journalism and obviously confusing your readership.

As for me, I believe it's pretty obvious that we OSU Cowboy fans have a much higher opinion of our program that the rest of the nation. Otherwise, we'd have been picked up by now.

It's a hard pill to swallow and we're so much better than we were when I was in school at OSU, but to be unattached and not in any current conversation with any Power 5 (4) conferences is sobering.

I believe we do have a lot to offer. When there's talk of tv numbers, I believe we do so much better than a Stanford, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Arizona, Washington State and Vanderbilt who are safely harbored into Power 4 conferences. Yet, no one is asking us to the prom.

To have once thought ourselves to big a conference to offer the likes of Louisville, Cincinnati, FSU and Miami to join when we could has our conference survival looking to add Colorado State, Boise State, BYU and SMU to survive.
We might survive, but we certainly won't thrive.

We need to align with big money or all of our progress with TBP money will be for naught.
I know there are rules, but do we really want to follow them now?
