Cowgirls Drop Match at Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Oklahoma State dropped its first-ever meeting with Brown on Sunday, losing a 2-1 contest to the Bears at Stevenson-Pincince Field. With the loss, the 24th-ranked Cowgirls fell to 3-2-0 on the season, while BU improved to 3-1-0.
OSU took the game's initial lead in the 28th minute on the first-career goal by Mollie Breiner. Off a corner kick, a Brown defender headed the ball away, but Breiner was there to deliver a blast from 30 yards out to the near post to put the Cowgirls up 1-0.
Behind three saves from Evie Vitali, OSU lead held until late in the half when, in the 42nd minute, the Bears converted a set piece for the equalizer. Kayla Duran took the free kick from 35 yards out and connected with Rebecca Rosen, who headed a shot over a leaping Vitali to tie the score at 1-1.
OSU controlled the attack in the second half, but BU goalie Kayla Thompson posted saves on three of the Cowgirls' four shots after intermission.
The Bears would capitalize with a game winner in the 78th minute when Ava Seelenfreund netted the decisive goal on a diving header in the box.
BU finished with an 11-9 edge in shots in the match, while the Cowgirls tallied 10 corner kicks to four for the home team.
OSU returns to action Thursday at SMU before a Sunday showdown at home against Texas A&M.
