DALLAS – Oklahoma State dominated statistically but came up short on the scoreboard against SMU Thursday night, dropping a 1-0 contest at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium. The loss was OSU's first ever to SMU as the Cowgirls fell to 3-3-0 on the season. They are now 4-1-1 all time against the Mustangs, who improved to 3-1-0 on the year.

OSU outshot the home team by a 19-7 margin and tallied seven corner kicks. Ten of the Cowgirls' shots were on frame.

"We didn't execute in the big moments," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "We had plenty of chances – their keeper made 10 saves – and we've got to bury two or three of those chances, especially in the first half. They got a set play that we didn't defend properly, and they scored a goal.

"It's frustrating from our end. We dominated every statistical category and should have won the game. (SMU) found a way to get it done so you've got to credit their team, but it's very disappointing from our standpoint."

OSU controlled the attack in the opening half but had nothing to show for it at the break. The Cowgirls owned a 9-2 advantage in shots and a 4-0 edge on corner kicks.

Olyvia Dowell had five of those shots, three of those on goal, including a long blast that a fully extended SMU goalie barely cleared over the crossbar in the eighth minute. Dowell finished with a game-high eight shots, four of those on goal.

Following intermission, SMU needed less than five minutes to take the lead. Off a corner kick, Payton Doiron delivered a header to the far post to put the Mustangs up 1-0.

OSU returns to action Sunday when the Cowgirls host nationally ranked Texas A&M at Neal Patterson Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
