Former Oklahoma State Corner Jarrick Bernard-Converse Transferring To LSU

Just after it was announced that Oklahoma State would be hiring Derek Mason as its newest defensive coordinator, LSU football sent out a tweet that it had signed former Cowboy cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse. 

The senior out of Evangel Christian out of Shreveport, LA will be a grad transfer.

Bernard-Converse was very good his final year in Stillwater. He entered the season starting 33-straight games and was tabbed First Team All-Big 12 and recorded 48 total tackles, 38 of which were solo stops, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, one quarterback hurry and 10 pass break ups.

His 10 PBUs led the team, with fellow corner Christian Holmes next on the list with seven.

He’s recorded 183 total tackles during his time in Stillwater, with 59 tackles his freshman season in 2018, which led to him earning the Russell Okung Award, awarded to OSU’s most outstanding newcomer.

Now that Jarrick is officially gone, he leaves behind a collection of talented, but young corners. Both Korie Black and Jabbar Muhammad were sophomores this past season on next on the list and played key roles in games down the stretch for the Pokes. Black recorded 19 total tackles, 12 of which were solo stops, including three against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. As for Muhammad, the cousin of former OSU corner AJ Green, he finished the year with 23 total tackles, 18 of which were solo stops, as well as three pass break ups, one of which came against Notre Dame.

The word is between $1,500 and $2,000 a month for his time at LSU (will be basically January 2022 to January 2023 as he only has one year of eligibility left) as part of the NIL deal plus a very nice vehicle! They basically contacted and arranged this deal thru his parents with an assist from a former HS Coach of Jarrick. This coms from a current player on the team. This is what OSU is up against, the vehicle deals can be easily accommodated through car dealerships via players doing ad spots etc… but the cash payment is a whole other animal.

Well as UT showed, all you need to do is set up a fake charity, and have him make an appearance a month at a local hospital and pay him the stipend to do that.

Unfortunately we're going to have to take the low road and start matching these offers. Create the Pistol Pete Charity, and do the same thing. We supporters can contribute and they can pay it out to any or all players as they have resources to do so. $18-25k is not that much that you couldn't get in that ball park for at least your first 50 guys or so.

Are our players regularly getting cars now? I saw the tweets where Bryce Thompson did back in September, but haven't heard if others had been taken care of.

Unfortunately this is the world we know live in with NIL, the vehicles aren't really that difficult to procure because you have the player or players do a few promo ads or a couple of appearances where they sign posters, hats etc… plus the cars are usually on a lease basis with the only out of pocket costs gas and insurance but even the insurance can be arranged for. The cash payments will be done as you said through some fake or fictitious charity or foundation or whatever you want to call it with boosters providing the funds to cover the cost of dispensing the cash. The first thing they really need to do is put a limit or cap on how much is doled out so that most Power 5 schools can at least have a fighting chance with the Texas and Ohio State and Alabama's of the world, basically a "salary cap" welcome to the brave new world!!!!!

Well the only way to do that is unionize the players, because without a union in place to negotiate a cap on earnings there is no way to cap it.

At some point the schools will just have to end the craziness and go to a club level of play and be done with it. Let the NFL/NBA/NHL do their own minor league work.

The end result is probably very little women's athletics and all these kids that are now making 6 & 7 figure salaries riding buses in the minors making 40k a year.
