Cowgirls' First 5-0 Start In Conference Play Since 1992-93, Beat TCU 69-50
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State Cowgirls were dominant from start to finish against TCU on Saturday as they rolled to an easy 69-50. They moved to 9-2 on the season and 5-0 to start conference play for the first time since the 1992-93 season.
The win also marked the second win over TCU in the last three days as the Cowgirls won 78-53 in Fort Worth on Wednesday.
“Good win our group,” said head coach Jim Littell. “Quick turnaround against TCU; it’s not always the easiest thing to do to turn around and play somebody right after you played them. Thought we responded really well for three quarters. Thought we got a little soft in the fourth quarter in how we finished the game, but a lot of positives and I’m excited to go to 5-0. We’ve taken care of business and had a lot of good things defensively today.”
It was the duo of Natasha Mack and Taylen Collins who led the way for the Cowgirls. Mack hauled in her 10th rebound of the game midway through the fourth quarter to give her her fourth double-double of the season, fifth overall including the triple-double she recorded against TCU on Jan. 6.
Mack finished the game with 19-points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field with 10 rebounds.
As for Collins, she recorded a career-high 19-points, with 13 of those points coming in the first half alone. She’d finished the game with 19-points on 7-of-8 shooting with seven rebounds and three assists.
“Playing a team back-to-back is always difficult to do and I kind of had that in my mindset,” said Collins. “Tonight, I just felt like I was taking whatever they gave me.”
Ja’Mee Asberry also had a solid outing as she finished the game with 16-points.
Natasha Mack records her first block of the game just under the six-minute mark, then her second steal of the game on TCU’s next possession leading to a bucket by Ja’Mee Asberry on the other to force a TCU timeout with the Cowgirls up 14-6. That bucket extended the Cowgirls scoring run to 8-0.
The Cowgirls extended that run up to 14-0 while forcing a near seven-minute TCU scoring drought before they’d get another bucket.
By the end of the first quarter, the Cowgirls led TCU 22-8 on 50% shooting from both the field and 3-point range, while also forcing nine turnovers on the other end and recording six steals.
The Cowgirls entered the second half with a 37-22 lead and would only turn the pressure up from there. They led the entire game and held TCU to just 29% shooting from the field, while shooting 46% on the other end.
The Cowgirls will head up to Ames this coming Wednesday for a showdown with Iowa State. Game details have yet to be announced.
