Report: Rob Glass Inks Five-Year Contract Extension

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State’s assistant athletic director of athletic performance isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. According to a report from Scott Wright of The Oklahoman, Mike Gundy signed Rob Glass to a five-year contract extension worth $1 million annually.

Outside of defensive coordinator Derek Mason, who’s set to make $1.1 million this season, Glass is now the highest paid coach on Mike Gundy’s staff.

The new contract went into effect on February 1, 2022.

Glass, who’s been a vital part of Gundy’s staff, is set to enter his 18th year of his second stint at in Stillwater, his 28th year overall. He joined the Cowboy staff in 1986 as a graduate assistant under then-head coach Pat Jones.

He was then named the head strength and conditioning coach in 1989 and stayed in Stillwater until he was hired as coordinator of strength and conditioning at Florida. He was promoted to Florida’s director of strength and conditioning in 1998, before returning to Stillwater after a 10-year stint with the Gators when Gundy was named head coach of the Cowboys in 2005.

With the UCLA/USC to the Big Ten news that came out this past week, every school not in the Big Ten or SEC is in a fight to be a part of the haves, not the have nots. OSU paying their strength coach more than any school in the SEC means they’re doing what it takes to compete at the next level and that they deserve to be a part of the haves.

The Cowboys took a major step in that direction this past season going 12-2 and beating two top-10 ranked teams, including No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 5 Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Two top-five all-time programs and most recognizable brands, which led to Gundy’s “We have a logo, too,” quote.

“The key to this game was Rob Glass, our strength staff, our conditioning. Our ability to play fast. In my opinion, we fatigued them, and they never could play catch-up. We struggled early in the game with them. My concerns going into the game was their length on their offense and defensive line; their ability to get their arms extended on us. They're longer than we are on both sides of the ball. So, we had to play fast and try to wear them down, which we did. And the coaches made fantastic adjustments at halftime. We challenged the team at halftime, that anybody that didn't want to come back out and fight play by play, he can stay in the locker room. And they came out and they fought, competed, and couldn't be any more proud of them.”

This past spring, everyone in the West End Zone, from support staff to assistant coaches, received raises. It was something Mike Gundy wanted to do before he received the pay raise which made him the highest-paid coach in the Big 12.

Here's a list of all the OSU assistant coaches and their contract details, courtesy of Scott Wright.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I hope that a million-dollar coach can now find a way to lessen the amount of injuries next season. If this guy lives up to the hype from Mike Gundy, then I wish he would also take on the wrestling team because those guys did not look as strong as some of their opponents last season.

Glass is the best in the business. No one is better. He is getting paid because he is at that level. No brainer.
