Injury Report: Cowboys Banged Up Following Tech Game
(Robert Allen of Pokes Report contributed to this story.)
STILLWATER – No. 7 Oklahoma State rode a strong defensive performance in the second half to a 41-31 win over Texas Tech. It was a grueling and physical game which featured hypothetically a full extra quarter of football as Texas Tech ran 104 offensive plays.
Several Cowboy players left the game due to injury at some point, with some going back in for the duration of the game and a few who stayed on the sidelines.
Here’s just a quick list of players who left the game due to injury.
WR Braydon Johnson: Head injury. The medical staff felt he needed to sit out the game, but he stayed suited up on the sideline for the entire game. Mike Gundy was asked about Johnson after the game and he wasn’t sure but emphasized that Johnson would be evaluated over the next few days.
OL Preston Wilson: Lower leg/ankle/foot injury. Wilson had to be helped off the field but was walking around after the game. The x-ray at halftime was negative and he came out suited up for the second half with a new tape job and a brace. After the staff decided to go with Joe Michalski, Wilson went and showered up and watched the rest of the game in street clothes and a boot on his foot. Mike Gundy said they would see where he was in a few days.
Several other offensive linemen left Boone Pickens Stadium wearing walking boots, but they were all players who finished the game.
CB Korie Black: Hamstring injury. Black left the game and didn’t finish. Status is unknown.
CB Demarco Jones: Arm/shoulder injury. Status is unknown.
LB Xavier Benson: Lower leg injury. Left the game for a brief period but returned and finished the game. Left the stadium wearing a walking boot.
QB Spencer Sanders: Shoulder/midsection. Had some discomfort following the game and had his shoulder wrapped in ice in the postgame press conference. He also took some shots to the midsection during the game.
Mike Gundy was asked during his press conference if he was concerned about some of the shots Spencer was taking, to which he responded with yes. Spencer, who was sitting on the stage off to the side, said “I’m a tough mother f***er.”
With what he’s done and how he’s played so far this season, I think we can all agree with Spencer on that point.
The Cowboys are going to try and get healthy as they have a tough road game against TCU next Saturday.
