Oklahoma State Football Recruiting

Cowboys Add Commitment in Stanaland and Likely Another Coming

November 16, 2022

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State picked up the 11th commitment in the 2023 football recruiting class with Gage Stanaland of Tuscola (Jim Ned), Texas. The 6-4, 280-pound Stanaland was at the Cowboys win over Iowa State on Saturday (Nov. 12) with his dad and had a great time. He literally foresadowed his commitment to Pokes Report on Monday night in a phone conversation.

“It was awesome,” Stanaland said of the atmosphere, the game, and the tour of the facilities. He also met with head coach Mike Gundy. “I loved it all. It was fantstic and it was a great game. My dad agreed and liked it too. We have been praying that we will hear from them and they will offer a scholarship.”

That happened and Stanaland took little time to respond on social media with his answer.

Besides Stanaland, Oklahoma State also hosted Oklahoma City (Putnam City), Okla. defensive end Taje McCoy (6-3, 245) at the Iowa State game and reinforced their scholarship offer with him. It would appear he would be next on the commitment list.

Twitter
Stanaland in action this season.

Stanaland has started for Jim Ned for three seasons and he was earlier committed to the Naval Academy, but he de-committed and reopened his recruiting when Oklahoma State took interest. This is a tough guy that you can see from his high school video leaves little doubt in his blocking chores. Stanaland has also shown his toughness in another sport as he has competed in Golden Gloves Boxing since 2018 and had considerable success. Wednesday night Stanaland confirmed for us that he was a state champion in Golden Gloves.

“I won a state championship and it was good experience,” he said by phone. “I’m really glad to be committed to Oklahoma State. This is where I want to be.”

Stanaland has helped Jim Ned to an 8-3 season with a 5-0 district championship. The Indians shut out Pilot Point last Friday 41-0 and this Friday (Nov. 18) will take on highly-ranked Bushland (10-1) in a road test for the second round of the Class 3A-Division I playoffs.

http://www.hudl.com/v/2JpNvS

Those highlights with Stanaland (55 in white) are fresh from that first round whitewash against Pilot Point. He is the third offensive line commitment in the Cowboys class that also includes Jack Endean (6-6, 280) from Tucson (Tanque Verde), Ariz. and Stillwater standout Jakobe Sanders (6-3, 295). Sanders may be the best offensive line prospect in Oklahoma. Stanaland is part of five members of the offense in the recruiting class including Gretna, Neb. quarterback Zane Flores and Houston (Furr), Texas athlete Camron Heard.

Putnam City High School
McCoy is accustomed to wearing orange.

As for McCoy, he was offered in the summer but there seemed to be a pause in his recruitment. Any pause is out the window and Oklahoma State showed they were full bore in purusing McCoy last weekend. Putnam City ended their season in the playoffs on Friday night (Nov. 11) with a 31-21 loss at Sand Springs. McCoy actually cross over to offense and ran for a nine-yard touchdown in the playoff loss.

https://www.hudl.com/profile/12831680/Taje-McCoy

McCoy had a strong season with 97 total tackles (68 unassisted), 11 sacks, 16 tackles-for-loss, four fumbles recovered, and three fumbles caused. McCoy was a major cog in the Pirates defense all season.

Among others McCoy has offers from Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Tulane, and Vanderbilt. He was first offered by Oklahoma State in January of this year as reported by Pokes Report. We expect to know something on McCoy soon.

If McCoy commits then he will be the 12th commitment in the recruiting class and the sixth on the defensive side of the ball joining fellow defensive end Jaedon Foreman of Del City, Okla.

We certainly are better at pass protection statistically. Much credit to Spencer sanders having a great ability to run when a play breaks down which is almost always considering he has an unblocked player of two in his grill immediately. If we had a true pocket passer we would be absolutely screwed and the stats would look much worse. But for sake of argument I'll throw away stats because apparently that's not valid. When I watch on tv the get zero push. They fall down constantly. Move backwards a lot. So statistically as well as visual they are not good. So if the number are good enough and you deny what you see on tv then I can't help you and you have an extreme case of denial. Which is absolutely no surprise considering you think Shane illingworth is better than Spencer sanders and should have been the starter here hahaha then went to Nevada and did squat. So your delusions don't surprise and it's logical you think good is bad and bad is good.

You can see it live on tv in short yardage situations lol the announcers even talk about it. We can't even confidently trot out for a 3rd and 1. Remember last week we had to bring in sanders in a short yardage situation and lost yards lol bevy they had zero faith in our line to open even a hole big enough for one yard. We gotta get all fancy and stupid because our line is pitiful.

"OSU's recruiting class ranks 70th nationally and ninth in the Big 12"

Spare me all the excuses and counter-points etc ... FB recruiting as a general over-archhing topic is the single most down-right depressing topic of our FB program for decade (+) ... I'm prepared to be lamblasted ... give me your best shots but know that I've already heard them all already ...

you badly twist everything just to fit your agenda

I did not say that Illingworth was better... I said that our offense is better with a passing QB, and it is, based on our history going back to Robinson. I said a passing QB gives us a better chance to win.

We would have torched KU if we had a QB like Shane to insert. Shane was 4-0 as a starter at OSU, and had only two INTs total in 6 games played - compared to the two guys we have behind Sanders now.

Gary these guys will literally say things like shows stats or it doesn't count then when you do say only fools use stats lol stuff like he should be a 4 star then turn around and say rankings are bull. They are literally here as ok state crusaders lol don't have a real opinion or you will indeed be lambasted

Kansas would have sack illingworth 5 time's probably. I'm not twisting either I'm talking straight up and you have no valid argument. Our line sucks cali go back to sleep

more wild conjecture. Seriously... our freshman QB had 5 freaking turnovers, Shane didn't turn the ball over like that.

"probably" you are "twisting", that's all you do... you didn't even get the statements "straight up" in your post to Gary, when you could have copied the comments verbatim.

A freshman qb playing behind a bad line with no run game to support him and the passing game.

You notice how we were about to lose a bad Iowa state team at home? No offense to speak of. We forced and recovered 5 turnovers and our offense couldn't capitalize until sanders was put in a used is ability to extend plays.

This is all after you said Rangel wasn't ready and we needed to play Gundy jr because he was better and more prepared. Cali your evaluation skills are horse crap.

you're talking about the Tulsa game right? Where Illingworth came in as the 3rd string QB and saved the day? As a true freshman with NO practice time because of COVID lock down. Come on man... eat apples

that has nothing to do with any statements made in this entire thread. After a half decade, Sanders has gotten pretty good at getting the ball out quickly, and knowing the play book. It was freaking last place ISU, and he did have some poor drives in that span as well. Not all peaches and cream.

and I was correct. Gundy managed the game (where as Rangel had previously turned it over on almost every early possession). If not for the blocked punt because we had a new punter, Gundy would have had the lead, AND, I'm confident that he could have gotten enough points in the 4th qtr to win the game, especially with the defense playing like that.

mocking my correct call does not make your statement legitimate.

Dude, you just don't know what the heck you're talking about. You apparently see everything through orange hate filled glasses

No the Kansas game with Rangel starting. You call out his turnovers but don't acknowledge why.

I know what you're talking about, jimminie christmas... I was pointing out that Illingworth was put in an even worse situation than that as a true freshman, and he saved the freaking game and the season when asked to do so.

apples to apples.

I know why Rangel had turnovers, he's a freaking freshman... Gunnar has had plenty too. Illingworth did not.... not when he was a freshman, not when he was a red shirt freshman.

I don't hate them I've said it many times you just ignore it. I call out weakness that haven't been effectively addressed. Like o line and recruiting. That's like the only thing I ever bring up. At this point it's clear to me you don't have good intentions on this forum. It's like a cesspool of negativity and arguments. You're shameless man and you don't understand boundaries. You are an embarrassment.

Depressing? For a decade? Would suck to be you. You're someone clearly focused on the wrong thing. It's wins, not recruiting ranking that matters. There are at least 20 teams that "outrecruit" OSU every year that just wished they had as many wins as OSU over the last 5, 10, 15 years.

Dude, the town of Stillwater, the state of Oklahoma, the Big12, and lack of championship pedigree are not positives for recruiting. But it gets worst. OSU won't be able to compete for 4 and 5 star athletes the farther down the NIL road we go. An unnamed school just offered one of our 3-star recruits in the upcoming class the following:

$100k
New car
Airline tickets for his parents to every game
A personal line of clothing.

Your life is really going to suck from here on out.

There, my best shot.

I am not replying to "you", I am commenting on posts that are made.

I would say the same thing (and do) whether you're making the wild statements, or whether it is somebody else posting unsubstantiated crap about the team.

my comments are not made relative to you or anybody else, I comment on topics and statements made. Only. (unless defending myself from personal attacks)

I don't know if this kid will ever seed this junk or not. But we just had a kid that re-opened his recruitment, and committed within minutes of getting the offer.

That story has lead to a thread of comments that have attacked him, the coaches, the o-line, all the o-line recruits and most of the posters in it.

I agree with the wins. I live in Texas namely Austin for the last 23 years. Longhorns, Aggies, Red Raiders, some Bears fans would very much like to have the consistent success OSU has had. The vast majority of them are favorable towards Gundy.

On the recruiting side, we are very much going to have to find innovative and scrappy ways of combatting the impact of the NIL. If the transfer portal remains, I'm hopeful Gundy's attitude evolves towards being a bit more favorable as a channel for us.
