maybe if we had Eberle pitching, since 2 of those hits were round-trippers....., but we need some more offense for the rubber match.
Cowgirls Drop Game Two Of Super Regional; Now Prepare For Game Three
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State Cowgirls took on the Texas Longhorns in game two of the Stillwater Super Regional Saturday afternoon, where they were defeated with a score of 4-2.
The Longhorns’ victory forces a game three to the series, which will be played on Sunday with a first pitch time of 3 P.M. Television details have yet to be announced.
The winner of the third matchup will advance to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City next week. Should OSU win, it would be the Cowgirls’ ninth appearance in program history and the second in the Kenny Gajewski era.
The game got off to a slow start on the offensive side for both teams, with the first action coming in the top of the third inning with the Cowgirls’ leadoff hitter Kiley Naomi hit a solo shot to left field. However, the bats would go quite again for the next couple of innings.
The next run we saw cross the plate was Texas’ McKenzie Parker scoring from second off a Janae Jefferson single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Cowgirls would go scoreless in the top of the sixth, then surrendered three runs in the bottom half of the inning off of a solo home run from Whitaker and a two-run shot from Iakopo.
The Cowgirls were only able to plate one run in the top of the seventh on a Sydney Pennington home run.
Oklahoma State only had three hits in the game, two of which were the solo home runs. They also left three baserunners stranded.
Pitcher Kelly Maxwell picked up the loss on the afternoon as she went 5.1 innings giving up seven hits and four runs, all of them earned, with five strikeouts and two walks.
