Holliday Confident Cowboys Will Get Decent Seed and Regional

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma State now looks to the NCAA Tournament and their regional destination. The Cowboys mid-season swoon in the Big 12 took away an opportunity to host in brand new O’Brate Stadium. If the decision were made later then the Cowboys might have had a chance. The 3-0 run to the Big 12 Tournament Championship Game with wins over Oklahoma, West Virginia, and eliminating top-seed Texas helped the Cowboys NCAA resume’ and the record is now 35-17-1. The RPI is high and Oklahoma State did play a premier non conference series with Vanderbilt.

Injuries hurt the Cowboys several times during the season. I did the radio on the series in Lubbock to open Big 12 play at Texas Tech. I was filling in for Rex Holt, who was at wrestling. Cade Cabbiness missed that series in right field with an injury. The second game hinged on an error in right field that I’m positive Cabbiness wouldn’t have made. That was the difference in winning the series.

The pitching injuries factored with losing the Big 12 series to Oklahoma and in the Sunday loss to Kansas.

The run this week in the Big 12 Tournament had to help.

The hosts for the NCAA Regionals are: (from the Big 12) Texas, TCU, and Texas Tech.

“TCU is no doubt a top eight seed,” Cowboys head coach Josh Holliday said after the Frogs beat his OSU team 10-7 in the Big 12 Championship Game. “Texas is a top-eight seed in my opinion, and I think they can go head to head with anybody in the country. I don’t care what conference.”

The NCAA Regionals from everywhere else: Arizona, Arkansas, East Carolina, Florida, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Mississippi, Oregon, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.

While D1 Baseball has been floating Oklahoma State going as a two-seed regionally over to Arkansas, we say no way that happens. You can’t send a top tier two-seed over to possibly the top number one seed. We predict that Oklahoma State will be in Arizona, Louisiana Tech, or South Carolina.

Cowboys gave it their all against TCU.

“I know the folks that are part of that group take great pride in the job they are tasked to do,” Holliday said of the NCAA Baseball Selection Committee. “Nothing I can say will impact anyone’s thoughts. I thought the team’s play speaks for itself. We did the things you are supposed to do play a tough schedule, finish strong, play competitive in an elite conference. I’m real proud of the resume; we have.”

We’ll find out Monday close to lunch time.
