Spencer Sanders Named to the Davey O'Brien Award Preseason Watch List

Fresh off an appearance at his first Big 12 Media Days, Spencer Sanders is one of just 30 quarterbacks named to the Davey O’Brien Award preseason watch list.

This is Sanders’ second year in a row to be included on the list.

Sanders is one of four Big 12 quarterbacks on the list, joined by OU’s Spencer Rattler, Iowa State’s Brock Purdy and TCU’s Max Duggan.

Sanders is entering his redshirt junior season with the Pokes and is coming off his first full offseason with quarterbacks coach, Tim Rattay.

He earned an honorable All-Big 12 mention following the 2020 season, in which we finished with 2,007 passing yards with a 62.8 completion percentage. He ranked second in the Big 12 with 8.13 yards per pass attempt and third in the conference with a 143.2 passing efficiency. He also rushed for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Something he’ll need to work on going into the 2021 season is his turnovers as he threw eight interceptions this past season to just 14 touchdowns, something he touched on at Big 12 Media Days.
