How Attractive Is Oklahoma State Football To Other Conferences and TV?

STILLWATER – You’ve probably heard ad nauseam this week about how all of this college conference realignment talk and movement is about one thing and one thing only. It is and that one thing is football attraction and how attractive your football program is to network television. It is about how much value a school will bring to a conference in their negotiations with networks over their television rights.

I didn't get to hear the interview this morning but thanks to archival abilities I was able to hear it in this article post. This was a very good interview from an insider who knows how the TV/Media game is played. Nice job Robert

I heard Tramel today make a decent case for the Big XII staying together. The money owed from OU and UT, the likelihood we stay a "power 5" conference, the possibility some members won't have a better "landing space", and the opportunity of expansion now being a financial improvement vs before when you were dividing a fixed pie between more members. Now, Houston, Cincinnati, perhaps Memphis and Colorado State (or BYU) likely expand the Big XII's brand and TV dollars (as compared to the remaining 8's TV value). It would also be nice to collect the $140 million from OU and UT!

Wow, very attractive!
Oh, so is OSU football..
But seriously, why not stick together an expand to 12 or even 16 teams, collecting the best of the rest 4-8 teams into the conference?
If playoffs expands to 8 or 12 teams, the new big 12 will surly get 1 spot. So OSU should have a strong chance of winning the conference and going to the playoffs every year.
Carve out our own brand, we need.

Not to mention that ESPN has revised their value of the remaining schools up to what we were making with OU & UT seems to say yes this league could go it alone.

That sounds very short sighted to me. I do not think there is any way that conference would get an automatic bid to the playoffs. It would basically be equal to the AAC or Mountain West. Remember when TCU and UCF went undefeated and did not get into the playoff. Barry is an uo homer and doesn't want OSU in a power 5 conference so he doesn't have to write about them. Same for all the daily oklahoman.

The proposal calls for the bracket each year to include the six highest-ranked conference champions, plus the six highest-ranked other teams as determined by the College Football Playoff selection committee. No conference would qualify automatically and there would be no limit on the number of participants from a conference.

They will change that in a hart beat to keep anyone but the "power conference" teams out.
The big money wants it to be maybe 64 teams or less and split the money. I can see wanting to dominate a conference like TCU did with the Mt. West but you cannot win national championships from there.

This from Ok state fan78 is very true, Tramel is probably reveling in this knowing OSU and Zero U are no longer connected and Zero U will now be in the big bad SEC.

Colorado State? You have to be kidding? Horrible choice, worse than BYU.
Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, yes. But never Colorado State. What has Colorado State ever won?

maybe the Denver market?

I think we should not be looking at what teams may have won, but rather what they could possibly do if they had better funding and more TV visibility.

IMHO, OSU would not have "won" anything football related without having the B12 money doled out every year... same with any number of schools like Northwestern, like Mississippi State, etc.

I too think that there may be better options than Colorado State, but only because of a slew of other factors.

I can see where OSU could be an attractive addition to the PAC 12 or ACC, but I don't think either of those two conferences feel any great urgency to add new members. Trying to hold the Big XII together, at least for a while, is probably our only real option.

I trust Berry Tramel's vision of what's best for Oklahoma State as much as I trust Dr Fauci deciding my health choices.
Tramel has NEVER had OSU in his best interest. He's a gooner through and through. He would rather OSU sink to a lesser conference and have about as much influence as Tulsa.

He's a goon BIG TIME.
I know there are rules, but do we really want to follow them now?

Well IF the playoffs expand to 12 with 6 guaranteed champs I do think its a good deal for a Big 8 conference to get into the playoffs annually.

However, that deal was put together by SEC commissioner, ND commissioner, and Big XII commissioner. It looked to have a great chance at being passed, but the OU/UT move changed the balance of power and now B1G & PAC have said they don't want that format. So it looks dead. Staying pat until that is worked out may be another good reason to move slowly for the Big 8.
