Tay Martin Asks for Prayers for his City - Houma, La.
STILLWATER – It has been 16-years to the day that Hurricane Katrina hit the coast of Louisiana and did devastating damage to the Gulf coast there and now Hurricane Ida is threatening to be the strongest storm to ever come on shore at the Louisiana coast. The storm made landfall at 1 p.m. this afternoon and has done damage to countless buildings with tornado strength winds, flooding with not only the water pouring in with the storm and its’ pelting rain, but also off the Gulf and water spilling over from Lake Pontchartrain. There are hundreds of thousands of people without electricity and that is expected to grow into the millions. The storm is passing directly over Houma, La. and that is the home of Oklahoma State starting wide receiver Tay Martin. The transfer from Washington State in his second season with the Cowboys put out a plea for prayers on his Twitter.
Martin is one of four Cowboys from Louisiana with offensive tackle Caleb Etienne being from New Orleans and his family would definitely be threatened by the impact of the storm as well. Linebacker Na’Drian Dizadare and cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse are both from further north in Shreveport. La. Also, transfer and super senior cornerback Christian Holmes is from Leland, Miss. that likely will also feel the impact of Hurricane Ida.
Martin has his parents Brian and April, two younger sisters, a younger brother, and his daughter Reign Christine Martin. We private messaged Martin with the hopes of finding out how his family is doing, hopefully leaving and taking refuge away from the path of the storm.
The major concern is that the storm has not lost any of its’ strength as a Cat 4 storm with 130-mile sustained winds and massive flooding capability since it came on shore.
