The Cowboys started off the season a little sluggish as they beat Missouri State, Tulsa and Boise State by a combined 13 points, but the win over Boise State was the breakout of running back Jaylen Warren. He carried the ball 32 times for 218 yards and two touchdowns.
Following non-conference play, the Cowboys beat No. 25 Kansas State 31-20, No. 21 Baylor 24-14 and went on the road and beat No. 25 Texas, 32-24.
They dropped a close one to Iowa State on the road, 24-21, but won the next three games against Kansas, West Virginia and TCU by a combined 119 points.
The Pokes hit the road down to Lubbock, TX on Nov. 20 and shutout Texas Tech, 23-0, which clinched a berth into the Big 12 title game and followed that game up with beating No. 10 Oklahoma in Stillwater for the Pokes’ first Bedlam win since 2014, 37-33.
The Big 12 title game didn’t go the way Mike Gundy and Co. hoped it would as they came up about five inches short, losing to No. 9 Baylor, 21-16.
The Cowboys put the ultimate cap on the season, however, as they upset No. 5 Notre Dame, 37-35, after scoring 30 unanswered points in the largest comeback win in program history.
