STILLWATER – Details are still being discovered as the accident just happened late Monday evening, but Oklahoma State 197-pound wrestler A.J. Ferrari was flown by helicopter ambulance to Oklahoma City following an automobile accident.

Ferrari was driving and was with a friend, who was reported by the O’Colly, and confirmed by the OSU Athletic Department, as three-time All-American cross country runner at OSU, Isai Rodriguez, when reports say he was passing several vehicles and his car collided head on with another vehicle. One of the first signs that something had happened was a message on social media from Ferrari’s father asking for prayers for his son and the people involved.

According to a release from the Oklahoma State athletic department, Ferrari is being treated for non life-threatening injuries, and an update from his father via social media is that “he has fluid in his lungs that is affecting his oxygen levels and some bad bruising with some internal bleeding,“ but that he has no broken bones and he is going to be OK. According to witness reports on the scene, he was responsive, but in shock from the accident.

"He has fluid in his lungs that is affecting his oxygen levels and some bad bruising with some internal bleeding, so they are keeping him here (OKC hospital)," A.J. Ferrari Sr. wrote on Facebook. "If you saw the car and AJ, you would know this was a miracle."

The accident occured on Highway 33 between Perkins, OK and Highway 108, which runs north into Ripley, OK.

Apparently, Oklahoma State Cowboys football offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn was there at the scene of the accident almost immediately and it was Dunn that pulled Ferrari out of his vehicle which was reported to be on fire. The passenger in the vehicle, Rodriguez, crawled through the broken windshield and was said to have a facial injury.

Oklahoma State athletics, the Oklahoma State University administration, wrestling head coach John Smith and his staff were all aware of the accident. Smith, assistant coach Chris Perry, and others were on their way to Oklahoma City.

Details will likely become more available in the morning and possibly through the night.

Ferrari finished his freshman season with a 20-1 overall record and a 10-0 record in dual competition. He won his first NCAA individual title with a 4-2 decision over No. 6 Nino Bonaccorsi (Pittsuburgh) at the NCAA Championships.

This season Ferrari is unbeaten at 10-0 and won a major decision on Sunday afternoon 12-2 over J.T. Davis of Lehigh in the team’s 26-9 dual win over No. 15 Lehigh. Oklahoma State is currently ranked No. 4 as a team and Ferrari is ranked No. 1 at 197-pounds and he has held that position all season.
