Cowboys Get Swept by Gonzaga
STILLWATER – OSU dropped its third consecutive game to Gonzaga in Monday's series finale, falling by a 2-1 score at O'Brate Stadium. With the loss, the sixth-ranked Cowboys fell to 6-5 following a series in which all three games were decided by one run. No. 15 Gonzaga improved to 9-2.
Bryce Osmond took the loss on the mound as the right-hander allowed two runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out five and issued one walk.
Offensively, Marcus Brown had two of the Cowboys' six hits, and OSU left nine runners stranded on base in the game.
In another low-scoring affair, Gonzaga got on the scoreboard first, scoring two runs on four-straight hits in the second inning.
The Cowboys would plate their only run in the fifth. Zach Ehrhard drew a one-out walk before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Jake Thompson would then ground a ball to shortstop, but a throwing error brought Ehrhard home.
Despite several opportunities with runners in scoring position, the Cowboys couldn't muster another run over the final four innings.
The Cowboys got strong relief outings from Kale Davis and Trevor Martin, who combined to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard and allowed just one hit over the final 4 2/3 innings.
OSU has a chance to get back in the win column Tuesday when the Cowboys host Missouri State in a midweek contest at 4 p.m.
