ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma State clinched a series win over BYU with an 8-5 victory in Saturday's series finale at Globe Life Field.

With the win, the sixth-ranked Cowboys improved to 9-6 and now have four series wins on the season. BYU fell to 8-5 with the loss.

OSU got a balanced effort from its pitching staff in the win, with six different pitchers taking the mound. Roman Phansalkar was credited with the win in relief as he improved to 3-2 on the year, while Trevor Martin pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth and earned his fourth save.

The bottom of the Cowboys' order came up big at the plate with Caeden Trenkle and Chase Adkison each collecting two RBIs in the contest.

BYU took a first inning lead when Hayden Leatham sent a Mitchell Stone pitch into the seats in left field with one out, making it a 1-0 ballgame.

The Cowboys quickly answered in the top of the second. David Mendham reached base on an error, and two batters later, Marcus Brown singled before both runners advanced on a fielding error, setting up two runners in scoring position with two outs. Trenkle then lined a ball that deflected off the glove of the leaping BYU shortstop and fell in for a two-RBI single to put OSU up, 2-1.

The Cougars tied things in the bottom of the second. The first two batters of the inning singled followed by a sacrifice bunt, and a one-out, RBI groundout evened the score.

OSU struck again in the fourth for a big inning. Garrett Martin continued a hot stretch by leading off the frame with a triple before scoring on a passed ball. Mendham then drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Nolan McLean followed that with a double into the gap, driving Mendham home. Two batters later, Trenkle drew a one-out walk before Adkison doubled down the third-base line to drive home both runners and make it a 6-2 game.

BYU got one back in the bottom of the fourth when the first two batters singled, and both advanced on errors. A sac fly would drive in a run, but Phansalkar got a timely double play to get out of the inning.

The Cougars once again found the scoreboard in the sixth. A double and back-to-back hit batters loaded the bases with two outs before a single up the middle plated two and narrowed the Cowboy lead to 6-5.

OSU got an insurance run in the seventh. Roc Riggio singled with one out and advanced to second on a groundout, and Jake Thompson then singled to right field, driving in Riggio and making it a two-run game.

The Pokes would put the cherry on top in the top of the ninth. Trenkle led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sac bunt. Zach Ehrhard then delivered a one-out single to right field, driving in Trenkle for the final 8-5 margin.

The Cowboys are back in action Wednesday when they host Dallas Baptist at O'Brate Stadium at 6 p.m.
